painting issue
I've fully painted a few new guns to a camo scheme but I'm having issues with a selector switch on one of the guns. The paint I bought was directly from this forum's hot to guide and it sticks to everything that the gun is made of ( plastic, metal, plastic fibers etc). The problem is the metal on the selector switch is so smooth, even if I try to sand it, it makes no difference. the paint simply won't stick, you can scratch it off. Any ideas?

dont paint it? im sure the gun will look fine if the selector switch goes unpainted. not everything on the entire gun always has to be painted. or if youre good with your hands maybe you can find the right shades of nail polish and paint it to suit your needs. if i have to paint something on one of my guns thats in a high touch area i like to use the nail poilish cuz it dries hard and quick and will not rub off or get sticky and is also super easy to touch up if it does get chipped off

A little to late now... its already painted :S nail polish huh?
|
Sand it to give the surface some tooth, clean it with alcohol, and paint it with a primer that will adhere to plastic. Then top coat it with the color of your choice.
|
take it off the gun first.... then do what panda says
|
Thanks for that. I was assuming it was already removed :)

most ppl wouldn't.. like a friend of mine.. ruined his m14..
|
ahah once I saw a yamaha Vmax completely painted matte black.
without taking anything apart. |
how about primer?
|
Clean the switch, using an ETCHING primer (dust on), dust paint on (from the same system[brand])

This might be a noob answer but what's the switch made of? If it's metal you might be able to anodize it.
Otherwise I believe there are inks and paints that will actually eat INTO things and make the colour relatively permanent. Other way that (I think) will work is to "drybrush" a colour onto the switch, take a fine brush, get some paint and "dry" it using a paper napkin or something so that theres still paint on the brush but it's really dry and just quickly go back and forth over the switch, it should really stick to the edges of the switch. |
Okay here is an update. Nail polish isn't sticking. The metal is so smooth I can't get it rough enough with the hardest sanding paper I could find. It seems to be made... this is just an educated guess... Titanium of all things.
