Night vision goggles are one of those things that you've always wanted, but known that the novelty wasn't worth the hundreds (or thousands) of dollars such fancy equipment obviously would cost. Well, good news! Now there are night vision goggles priced with you, the amateur pervert, in mind. Only $90! The EyeClops goggles we checked out in February are finally for sale. They're similar but assuredly crappier than the ones special forces badasses use! No sleeping ladies are safe when you've got cheap night vision goggles. [ThinkGeek]

Gigaknight September 25th, 2008 19:05

Kind of reminds me of the night vision goggles from Jurassic Park... Those things are bulky!

arcanuck September 25th, 2008 19:12

Where can I get a set of those beasts. What I really wanted was a NV scope but oh well. PS no pervert here

Smitico September 25th, 2008 19:20

Actually, if you put a green filter on the LED's, it'd look like Sam Fisher's NVG's.

Bissa September 25th, 2008 19:25

i wonder if they are ballistic rated? having a pair of these at a night game would be sweet.

Voodoo September 25th, 2008 19:31

we are the borge.....resistance is futile!

Wilson September 25th, 2008 19:37

It's not even true night vision!

If you're serious.... http://www.opticsplanet.net/nightvision3rd.html

bodydropper September 25th, 2008 19:51

That's exactly what popped in my head at first sight. LOL They look bulky.

The EyeClops Night Vision goggles let you see in total darkness using infrared lights, all while giving you that special Terminator look. Two attachments allow visibility 10 or 20 feet ahead—the 10-footers give off no light, the 20s show some small red dots.

Phalanix September 25th, 2008 20:17

The Borg have invaded.

Drache September 25th, 2008 20:28

these things are junk, you can see up to 20 feet MAX....

Schlyder September 25th, 2008 20:54

"We are going to assimilate you to the Borg Collective. Resistance is futile."
The more times I see them I laugh harder. No offence to the manufacturer intended. LOL Hey but Halloween is coming up.

Haha not everybody can cough up enough cash for Gen. 3 (or higher) night vision bro!

Drake September 25th, 2008 21:53

You can more or less build those yourself. They aren't, as previously stated, real NV. They're basically just a CMOS-based camera, capable of seeing IR (like cheapo "spy cameras" on eBay) and some IR LEDs providing illumination.

Drache September 25th, 2008 21:54

My laptop's built in webcam does the same thing lol

SOCINCO September 25th, 2008 22:20

night vision can not be import right!

+1 I built one back in high school, the 2mm IR LEDs, just like a flashlight shoots a beam of IR light, so if anyone else had one on, you would instantly see the beam and vis versa.

Basically generation 0 tech.

Gryphon September 25th, 2008 22:26

So-called "digital" night vision is as Drake described. The resolution is on par with good Gen 2 devices, but these need a LOT of infrared to see anything. Without it you're just as blind as someone with the naked eye. A huge IR spotlight would assist greatly but makes you a lot more visible, especially to anyone else with any sort of NV device.

I think these new goggles are advantageous to airsoft. Night games can be a lot of fun and VERY few people have the scratch to drop on acceptable NV devices. I had a Gen 2 D-300 monocular at one point and found it lacking, especially for the $1,200 I dropped on it. At the price point this device is marked at, it makes it affordable to most any airsofter and opens up the possibility of far more night games. Who cares if the built-in illuminator is only good to 20 feet? An IR filter for a flashlight can be bought or made with a piece of exposed photographic film. Bring these on and get out there in the dark, I say!

theshaneler September 25th, 2008 22:37

whats with the death star on the top??? is that for blowing up planet shaped balloons?
:p

ThunderCactus September 25th, 2008 23:30

Thats not even night vision, its an IR camera, same idea but with ALOT more IR illumination lol
It's the old 1950's starlight!
Anyway moral of the story is anyone with a gen1 tube is gonna see you no matter where you are, best chance is to blind them with your many IR lights lol

Kingsix September 26th, 2008 07:33

Hmmm won't be to invisible if someone has an IR Detector built for catching these devices seriously I've seen them for sale at a electronics surplus store.

Phalanix September 26th, 2008 09:39

This will be popular at Star Trek conventions.

S.H.I.E.L.D. September 26th, 2008 10:01

It looks like some sort of weird pilot helmet from Star Wars. Like some Tie Interceptor or Advanced pilot should be shooting down X-Wings wearing these things....too bulky.

Far as I know US state dept won't issue any export permits for these. You'll have to get them from the UK or get ones built in Canada.

McKee September 26th, 2008 13:31

All it does is allow you to see infared and has a giant infared flashlight on it.

You can get the same effect using infared LEDs and a camcorder viewfinder (I.E. Paris hilton night vision).

I had to sell my nightvision goggles for car insurance.

RICKBO September 26th, 2008 18:31

Saw one of these at walmart today...

Armyissue September 26th, 2008 18:39

I think my kid got one in his McHappy meal!

Kingsix September 26th, 2008 18:55

I guess it wouldn't be to hard to mod the externals.

Sha Do September 26th, 2008 19:05

It's the US that will not export higher than Gen 2, and Canada does not allow the import of higher than Gen 2 plus (for Joe Public). As well, Canada restricts any NVD that can be weapon mounted (again, for Joe Public).

Something like this I would consider fun and affordable for the average airsofter, and it'll only be time before someone tinkers around with one enough to figure out how to properly mod it to function better.

You mean for import right? You can buy state of the art NV riflescope (GEN 4) from Newcon Optik right here in Toronto, no restrictions.
