Exchange rate CDN $.77 = USD$1

Down again this morning. I better make some purchases quick before it goes lower yet. LOL

Mapcinq October 23rd, 2008 12:56

I wish I had bought some American money when it was 1-1

jtjcheng October 23rd, 2008 13:03

Yeah, me too!

Currency can really play some tricks, sigh.

Harbinger of Darkness October 23rd, 2008 13:50

I'm just glad I put my Redwolf order in before the dollar dropped again.

Drache October 23rd, 2008 14:01

my paypal is still currently reading 1:1 as of yesterday when I paid for something.

Schlyder October 23rd, 2008 14:10

How are you still getting $1 - $1 ????? I just looked at paypal and it is .77 and change. $388. converted to $501. :( If you are still getting that how about you put my order in. And I'll send you the money. hahahaha

Flea-ish October 23rd, 2008 14:11

this is sooooo BS. Our dollar was worth MORE just about 6 months ago!

cbcsteve October 23rd, 2008 14:12

Yeah it sucks I wish I hedged my funds earlier when it was just at .95 then I would have made a .15 savings darrgh looks like accesory ordering from the states is gonna drop drastically

Its not BS its "the market" on PMS one minute you are high flying making $30,000 in stock trades all happy and in next day you can lose $10,000 in just a few minutes

Brian McIlmoyle October 23rd, 2008 14:25

Sucks for some

But it is a boon to others

Makes our resources and Manufacturing sectors very attractive.. and will further soften the blow of the global economic recession as felt here in Canada

cbcsteve October 23rd, 2008 14:27

Thats if the manufacturers can find customers

But those who are still left are the cream of the crop, cause many companies have closed down or are on the verge of dying or bought out

So in the next few years the companies you see that are still up are good companies to think about or maybe invest in, as long as their executives maintain the same vision

Yes, the US dollar is now worth more against the Canadian Dollar.

Hard to believe that it's now a 30% difference compared to just a month ago when we were still almost at par. The bubble was bound to burst eventually anyways. I should've invested more in US funds. grr...

DENZILDON October 23rd, 2008 14:45

The exchange rate does suck. But we still have a better economy! :D

Uh, when $1 USD is worth $1.30 CDN, that means the US dollar is worth more than ours. I think you need to look at the picture again.

$1USD = $1.30CDN means that $1CDN = $.70USD.

bingo

smith October 23rd, 2008 15:25

ugh, and i was gonna save a bundle ordering tires from the US. Stupid exchange rate.

Anthology October 23rd, 2008 17:13

The dollar seemed to pull itself up a bit today, hopefully back to par within the next few months, but I doubt it.

At least this will create jobs in tourism and manufacturing/shipping industry. Maybe this recession won't be as bad for Canada as it will be for other parts of the world... Experts say that Canada will be one of the countries that will go through this recession without much change. They say other countries may be taken in by wealthier nations or through bad decisions, they may revolt. These are fairly extreme examples, and it's too early to really predict what will happen. Let's hope for the best.

Damnit you moron's... we should have kept on about it.. got them to do us group orders as PRE-SET prices/payment... :D... and at the end of it do a good ol german shrink voice... "And so... vat di juu learn?"

Drake October 23rd, 2008 17:34

The Loonie is largely tied to commodities prices, so as they drop, so will the value of our dollar. It's directly bad because our purchases are generally in USD but it's not all bad: Canada's economy is largely export driven, and a lower value makes Canadian-produced goods more competitive on the global market.

So while our neighbors to the South deal with an economic slowdown and the entire mess they're dealing with now, the combination of our being kept largely out of that mess (in part thanks to the Harper government) and more competitively priced goods could be generally favorable for Canada.

Styrak October 23rd, 2008 19:05

Schlyder October 23rd, 2008 19:16

I know ... let's all get Drache to make our orders for us hahahahahaha

Drache October 23rd, 2008 19:45

as of today, my exchange rate shows the normal $1.30 CDN, but yesterday when I paid for my shit, the exchange rate was equal.

SHaKaL October 23rd, 2008 19:50

Bah... I might keep my job as 90% of our commerce is with the state.

surebet October 24th, 2008 11:53

lower dollar value = less purchase power

but

lower value = more sales
more sales = more wealth local
... = more / better jobs
... = more purchasing power

1:1.3 is fine by me.

KenC October 24th, 2008 17:34

When I buy from airsoft distributors and manufactures I pay them USD. This is bad news for me, hopefully it won't be so bad that my prices need to be adjusted.

Karnage October 24th, 2008 17:36

Yeah unfortunately after doing some calculations it looks like my prices may have to rise 15-25% because of this. :(

TrueTGN October 24th, 2008 17:41

Thing is though, how long will it even be this low?

what I have been hearing is we could be in this "phase" for a year to 18 months. exchange today was giving $Cdn.76 = US$1
All these problems with our global economy is because speculators fuck with the marketplace. Oil was at US$67. a barrel today. That's nearly a %50 drop from where it was just a couple of months ago. Why??? because of speculation on the market. It has nothing to do with supply and demand. The Arabs announced that they were cutting back production. Which should have made oil go up in price. Well it still went down. The banks get their bailout and then they start fucking us again as soon as they have their security. Interest on savings drops and interest on loans goes up. FUCK THEM ALL. hahahaha I needed that rant. LOL

ILLusion October 24th, 2008 17:57

My prices have to go up as well... this is a pretty hard hit.

I'd already lowered my prices when the dollar went down, but I don't think any retailer could reasonably support it anymore.

Koopa October 24th, 2008 20:32

All currencies but USD are down. This just goes to show you who has the real money in the world and who's the boss. Not China, Russia or India

Amos October 24th, 2008 20:59

Uggggggg.

That's all I have to say.

UGGGGGG.

Same here. NO CHEAP guns anymore!! :D I paid chinese yuan to the factories. Now 1CND = 5.3 chinese yuan. It was 1CND = 5.8 chinese yuan two weeks ago and 1CND = 7 chinese yuan last year!

Schlyder October 24th, 2008 21:08

I was making an order this morning, was going to hit the pay button, and the phone rang, well I was busy then for about 10 minutes. Had to redo my order as shit timed out on me. In that time, because the Cdn$ fell some more, it cost me an extra $5. on that order. *shaking head*

Doesn't really show you anything depending on how the currency's worth is determined. The world agreed after the elimination of the gold standard that the world would turn to the US to offer it's currency as the new standard. Although that system has passed as well the current "no real system" is still somewhat loosely based off of that because of the way country's have acted with their foreign currency reserves. There is a reason why China has billions if not trillions of US currency stashed away in it's vaults. At world economic crisis times like these although some speculative people who predict that doomsday is coming will be dashing to buy up as much gold as possible, the more modern thinkers will still value the US dollar as the international standard of today. Either way, the HKD is actually up against the US :) but that means absolutely nothing hehe

Koopa October 24th, 2008 22:03

Well, the point of holding USD is that you have the ability to buy American things or to speculate (of others who do). Be it land, resources or most importantly, debt/bonds and perhaps stocks. What is happening is that people are valuing American shit more.

Look at American Dow market. Horrible eh? Then look at European. About the same news or worse. East European? More terrible. Asian/developing.. absolute disaster/1932 bottoms. Makes the Dow look pretty good.
