Hurricane VS Modify

im getting a new gearset for my MK46 since the one it came with was chewed up, so

which is better?

Hurrican Helical ultra torque up gear set (MUST USE HALF TOOTH PISTON)

OR

Modify torque up gear set

You should try the modify modular gearset... I bought it but realized I couldnt use it on my reinforced gearbox :S. It was really smooth and doesnt need shimming.. its all there and you can get the tourque-up version as well. (Remember to buy the special metal bushings for the modular gearset though.)
Not sure what ppls experiences are with them...

BORDENSNIPER December 19th, 2008 23:15

thanks,

but i have the wild monkey reinforced gearbox im not gonna take a risk with the modular set, i know how to shim good.

im just curious if the helicar gears have an advantage?

BeAcH December 19th, 2008 23:54

their is a huge advantage to using helical gears, but they require shimming, they are super quiet at least 50% quieter than the modify gearset...I have both and love the helicals way better. Be very patient when you start to shim them as they are harder to shim. I have the deep fire titanium piston for the helical gears....it was the best piston that jugglez carries in a half tooth design.

best of luck

i vote for modify, i have them in my kraken and they work awsome!

T_A_N_K December 20th, 2008 00:14

I have a modify Torque up set and they feel nice, haven't shot anything threw them yet. But the hurricane ones looks sexy and are very quiet. They are also more expensive. I think $20 or so more than the modify. Everything requires shimming, even if the product says it doesn't.

BORDENSNIPER December 20th, 2008 00:18

hmm its a 5 dollar difference....damn this is a hard choice.

durability wise, any difference?

This is for higher fps set up. Your rate of fire will be slow. Better use TU or STU gearset if you want to maintain a good rate of fire.

BORDENSNIPER December 20th, 2008 00:52

will the helical give me 700-900rpm? then im happy.

im just worried about half tooth pistons, do they wear away more often?

BeAcH December 20th, 2008 01:20

if you shim the helical gears just right then you should see normal wear and tair, i really like the helical gears. Im using a 10.8 1700mah battery in my set up and the rate of fire is good on full auto.....but most of the time i only shoot 3 rd bursts as its a little nicer on the internals.

what motor are you planning on using?

BORDENSNIPER December 20th, 2008 01:27

the stock short motor that comes with the star mk46

BeAcH December 20th, 2008 01:35

is that motor equivalant to a EG1000.....because I used a EG1000 in this set up for abit, then changed it to a systema magnum motor and wow what a huge difference in performance....

BORDENSNIPER December 20th, 2008 01:38

no clue...its shy of 2 years old...

i think il go with the modify simply cause its less money for me since dont need to buy new piston for that.

cheers,

thanks for help.

BeAcH December 20th, 2008 01:46

right on, im guessing that your going to be buying the individual modify gears, the ones that require shimming, cuz im thinking that the mechbox you have wont accept the modify modular gearset...

post pics when your done

Kos-Mos December 20th, 2008 01:52

FYI, there now is a new version of the Modify modular, they are made to fit Reinforced mechboxes.

I would go for these, since I shimmed quite a lot of helical gears and they are WAY harder to shim.

Also, the sound difference is not as extreme as people like to think.
It is as loud, but lower tone a little bit.

If you don't plan on going over 400 fps, it is just a waste of money and time.

BORDENSNIPER December 20th, 2008 01:54

u have my word on pics.

this MK46 needs tons of work once cheeseman is able to come over to my place me and him will be making it operable so its nice and new.

parts on the way:
- new A&L metal railed feed tray
-Modify high torque gears
-either were gonna build a mag or buy a GP m249 and mod it to fit
-full rewiring of this thing

pics of process and vid of operation will be posted in next 2 weeks.

cheers, thanks for the help. and yes im buying the seperate ones and will do shimming.,,its gonna be abitch with this tank of a gearbox
