Canadian Airsoft History

I was just wondering cuz now we're only allowed cansoft, was there a time before when we were allowed to import from TM and CA and stuff?
Or else how do ppl on FS section have these guns?

If this is true, is it possible still to import any from TM?
Like I know you can get a permit or special liscence to import them, but is it possible?
Cuz there doesn't seem to be a lot of TM G36c's left out there, at least not in really good condition...

help appreciateddddd

Importing Airsoft into Canada

The Saint January 14th, 2009 16:43

Long story short, replica firearms have only been illegal by law since 1998.

It took a number of years for the government agencies responsible to execute the new law to decide whether airsoft guns were replica firearms.

It then took them a number of years more to figure out that some businesses were importing airsoft guns and selling them, when they shouldn't be. This led to a game of cat and mouse between the Canada Customs and airsoft importers that continues to this day.

No, it's not possible for you get get the appropriate authorization to import airsoft guns. They are only available for a very small list of purposes, and playing airsoft is not one of them.

so... basically new tm's... new ca's... they will basically slowly be weeded out of existance? lol as we use the existing ones already in canada and they just get older and blah blah...

Darklen January 14th, 2009 16:50

You're Age Verified, so you have access to the retailers section. Feel free to contect one of them to see what they can do you you. New black guns come in all the time, you just have to be AV'd to get access to them here.

When end users WERE allowed to import airsoft, Classic Army didn't even exist...

The Saint January 14th, 2009 16:53

I said people are still bringing new guns into Canada despite the legal situation.

The lack of new TM G36s in the market is more likely the result of competition from other brands. Less and less people ask for them, so fewer are imported.

Ah.. k but so are they gonna be importing through illegal ways, or with a BFL?

tru tru JG is kinda comprimising it haha...

one more question... I don't understand the 407 fps thing...
so at 407 they become airguns... soo... do you need a PAL? or is that for only airguns over 500
but u have to pay shipping and chrono fees right

The Saint January 14th, 2009 17:06

A Business Firearms Licence does not allow one to sell replica firearms to the public. To use a BFL to import airsoft gun and then sell them to the public is a criminal offence.

The 407fps is a complex issue that newbies should stay well away from. It doesn't help you.

so summing all of this up...

there is no real way to legally bring these guns in...
ppl just sometimes do it by luck?

The Saint January 14th, 2009 17:10

Correct, there is no real legal way to bring in replica firearms as consumer goods.

I don't know if I'd call it luck. There's more to it than simple probability. It really is something you shouldn't bother worrying about, though.

Dragate January 14th, 2009 17:11

*SIGH*

really love them tm guns XD haha
such a shame...

is there any movements to legalize it?
or i think we should start one =]

The Saint January 14th, 2009 17:20

Legalizing airsoft is not an idea to be casually tossed about.

Many newbies have had very short stays here on ASC, because they spent most of their time arguing that there should be some sort of legalization moment without actually having any notion of what's involved.

In the end, if you need to ask about the legal history of airsoft guns in Canada, you're the last person that should be suggesting a moment to legalize it. No offence intended.

Dragate January 14th, 2009 18:25

it's okay

none taken
i am a nuubie after all and i'm not relaly serious about the movement
but i'd like to know more about the history =S

White_knight January 15th, 2009 00:16

thats the point, newbies come on here, toss that around and arent really serious about it. also, you may say you love tm (curious have you ever owned or held a tm?) but what the problem is, is the price. when you can get the same gun for cheaper, you go for that. when i got my tm p90, TM didn't live up to it hype in my mind.

Dragate January 15th, 2009 01:42

haha actually i have a tm g36c :P as u can see in my sig haha
i have a ca k rail on it and stuff

trust me before i bought this gun i did research ... nto just any research like a week of staying up everyday looking at stuff online... haha

i just put it into newbie tank cuz i didn't know anything about the history of airsoft in canada

sure my g36 was a bit expensive, but hey i love it... the sound is actualy amazing too... dunno why it sounds non-electric like but ya haha

i want to buy another g36 cuz this one is a bit scratched on the sling loop and i'm really anal about asthetics =S

White_knight January 15th, 2009 02:03

yeah my p90 got scratched pretty bad too, don't get me wrong i LOVE my p90, for being the smallest gun i have it can easily out shoot all the others. what bugs me is the plastic, the shitty plastic at that, it creeks and flexes and it just bugs the piss out of me, it doesn't instill the sense of durability tm is known for. hell even my BE xm8 didnt creek like the tm and that's sad. i have a few complaints about it, but deep down i love this gun. and the only reason i asked if you had one is because you said you loved them and i didn't know if that was based on experience or fanboyism

Dragate January 15th, 2009 02:07

haha
actually my tm on the mag part is a bit creaky, and when u hold it sideways and twist it abit... i think it's cuz of the steel backbone design

ya...

*sigh*

othe rhtan that tho, sound, rof everythign stock i love =]
hmmm but i'd really like to hear more about the movement and stuff tho, is there any like articles or anywhere on the forum that explains it?

White_knight January 15th, 2009 02:14

im not trying to argue with you i can see your last post, sorry if it came off like that, i was just discussing some points of TM and what my experiences are with them. i belive that you own one, like i just said the only reason i asked was cause i was genuanly curious as to where the statement i love TM was coming from. and now i see why.

Dragate January 15th, 2009 02:17

haha kk

good to know newbie tank is after all, newbie tank =]

thnx for all the help and info
