L.S.J.S January 30th, 2009 21:55

Voice of Reason January 30th, 2009 22:24

Shirley January 30th, 2009 22:26

Amos January 30th, 2009 22:29

Well whatever I did ........It is what it is: ) just working with what I could get my hands on.......Its is A whole new front end

but ya I guess your right its not a mod. I should have worded it differently

Coma January 31st, 2009 00:28

A mod is any change to an AEG that the user finds beneficial. I agree in this case that the removal and sale of the ugly plastic kit was a big benefit to the owner!

lemegacool January 31st, 2009 00:45

hmmm personally i would change the aluminium piston head to a polycarbonate one... less hard on the poor v.2 shell and put a sorbo pad in here ... your gun will thank you!!;)

That and change to a m110. You get close to 400 fps with an 110 and a tightbore that length. And a 130 spring is just gonna wreck a mechbox especially if it has a aluminium piston head.

what brand would you go with? and linear or non?

TCLP January 31st, 2009 01:26

I've had good luck with prometheous but any non pdi m110 spring will do.

swatt13 January 31st, 2009 02:09

you took a unique gun, stripped it down to look like every other gun out there? i dunno, i thin k that was ass backwards. if you didnt want that dragon, i would have gladly traded you my m4 w/ a vn mag and noveske pig

Ah all right then, Aslong as you're happy with what you did.. But "Mod" generally refers to something out of the norm...

I wish I could find pictures, but I mixed a G36 and a FAMAS a while ago.. That's an example of a "Mod"

Anything out of the ordinary :P You've just upgraded and de-uglified that gun!

thats not even funny.... id rather use clearsoft than that thing!!!!!!!!!

FastNFurious March 5th, 2009 16:20

I just bought the Dragon as well as my first gun. I should get it tomorrow in the mail. I am quite stoked about it personally. I know my favorite stalker will work miracles with it and make it even better for me. ;)

Crunchmeister March 5th, 2009 16:51

Well look at it this way - buying a JG Dragon is one way of "legally" getting an all black JG M4 in Canada at cheaper than the actual cost of a plain JG M4 without the furniture. AND you can resell the body kit for profit. That's a winning combination if you ask me.

Thenooblord March 5th, 2009 17:17

but i love the dragon furniture!

LUTNIT March 5th, 2009 18:36

Bold purple beats the extra small red text someone a while ago always posted in.

If I get a Dragon, I also build an entire Ghost in the Shell costume for it. And since I wont be doing that...

Maybe I can use the thermoforming equipment at school to make an entire suit of space marine power armour and mod an AK into a bolter...

Crunchmeister March 5th, 2009 20:47

The Dragon is an M4 under the furniture and stock. You just need to install a proper front end on it and you have a regular old JG M4.

Ah thats cool. Metal or plastic body for the M4?? I heard some JG was metal while others were plastic.

Crunchmeister March 5th, 2009 21:48

I like of like the Dragon too. I couldn't see myself gaming it, but would be a cool conversation piece to mount up on my wall or something and for the occasional plinking.

Amos March 5th, 2009 22:31

I think the dragon would look nice with a decent paint job....

lol

The front grip looks comfortable.

Way ahead of you.

voorhees -FWA- March 6th, 2009 02:04

I have a JG Dragon, and I love it! When i take her out to game, she's the talk of the field... lol... i almost have to hide her in the trunk, everyone just wants to molest her... pretty funny. it's a perfect combination of rubber, plastic, and "steel" lol... very nice feel and weight.
I am planning on doing some air brushing and give her a "hot" used look. right at the front of the fore grip where the battery goes, there are dimples, i'm planning on adding exhaust whips coming from the dimples while painting them black, or even drilling them out to make them look more like heat ports (hard to describe - it's all in my head). i'll have to post pics when i get her painted up this summer.
The only problem i have with her is the semi auto doesnt like to fire every time - u have to switch to full auto, fire a few, then move it back to semi until it does it again. i've read that it's a problem with the JG gear box - i dont really care - it's all about spray n pray while CQBing... lol

voorhees -FWA- March 6th, 2009 02:12

lol - i forgot to mention the BEST paint job on a JG Dragon... EVER!

ratnest March 25th, 2009 19:49

is there a rail under all that plastic? i'm getting one soon, and if i convert it do i need to buy anything besides a front end?

L.S.J.S March 25th, 2009 20:10

Front end and inner barrel is all you need, top rail and carry handle are already there.

pestobanana March 25th, 2009 20:45

I have not read through the entire thread, but regarding the conversion of a JG Dragon to a regular looking AR-15 style rifle, I would suggest looking into the cylinder porting in the gearbox.

Since the JG Dragon has an extremely short barrel, adding a longer barrel might require a new cylinder, with the port in a different position, otherwise the lack of air volume in the cylinder would cause a significant drop in power and accuracy.

You should also note that if you are looking for a more authentic looking rifle, you should consider getting a new pistol grip, because the JG Dragon pistol grip just looks odd to me.

HOLY F-CKIN' SH-T!!!!!..that is by far the FREAKIEST and COOLEST paint job I've ever seen man..HOLY SH-T!!!...very , and I mean VERY awesome job ..can you do my dragon now?..how much $ do you need?..I'm quite serious..

ratnest March 26th, 2009 02:11

if i switch the front end to something about as short, would i need to mod any internals? and would the brand of front end matter

L.S.J.S March 26th, 2009 10:31

well when I got mine. Before changing anything! out of the box I fired about 100 rounds and it jammed up. I took it apart and the piston head had come loose. The screw holding it to the piston was loose causing it to lock up. This has happend to many of these guns. so I suggest checking that out when you get it. All you gotta do is put some thread tape or lock tight on that screw and tighten it up other than that. Your good to go.Any TM compatible front end will work just make sure you get the inner barrel that fits. And whether you change to something as short as the dragon or as long as the m4 your internals should be fine mine were. I upgraded them anyways but you wont need to.just tape up that screw : )If you have any problems doing all this let me know I would be happy to help......................

The internals are the same in a dragon as they are in a jg m4 just so you know!
And that grip is sick!just ask anybody who has held one................I would keep it...But that's just my opinion!

so my dragon is in the mail, and so is my front end, the pistol grip looks comfy, the main reason i want a new front end is i want rail space.

hi, i bought this rifle from this guy. i love the grip. it does look bulky on what i think is a compact size m4 (i grew up with large hunting rifles) but it really helps keep the rifle steady and using your hand to move the rifle (liek if i had a bi pod on it, which i plan on soon).

BloodDrinker March 28th, 2009 20:44

it's a can of worms that's for sure

ratnest March 28th, 2009 22:51

is it possible to move the battery into the butt stock?

Yes, you can, but that would require some modding. You would need to take your gun apart, reroute the wiring into a new stock, either full or crane. If you do end up moving the battery to the stock, you may need a small to large converter, because most large batteries use large plugs, and I'm quite sure the JG Dragon has a small plug on the front.

Are you sure they are the same? From the pictures I have seen, the JG dragon has the new JG "black" gearbox, while the M-4 has the standard one. I would still suggest making sure the cylinder port is in the right place. You could say the JG M-4 uses the same gearbox as the JG M-16, and that would be true for the most part, except with the cylinder porting. I believe this is also the case with the JG Dragon, so you should probably look it up when you crack open the gearbox.

Me thinks internal upgrades count as modding.

Triple_T1159 April 8th, 2009 23:04

Hey just had a question, i did pretty much the exact same external upgrade to my dragon as you did, however i was just wondering how you managed to put your silencer on, im guessing it's the one you got with the dragon as is mine but the flash hider is alittle too small to fit the screw piece into. I don't want to mess with the flash hider (obviously) but i was just wondering if there's some way i can get that silencer on there.

any help would be great, It's the "JBU 4.75in suppressor"

Thanks

Conker April 8th, 2009 23:06

You got to remove the flash hider to put your silencer on there, or you get a QD silencer that fits on top of it but I don't think that any exists for those plastic orange flash hiders^^

You have to remove the flash hider. Then you have to remove the adapter from the silencer ; ) then it should screw right on

Yeah, that's what I figured but that flash hider is one hell of a bugger to get off.
any technique or is the front set I got just crazy-glued shut. like i took off the bottom screw of the flash hider but that didn't seem to do or reveal anything. i tried to wrench the thing off but that didn't do much either

anyway, if you could shed some light on the subject that be great

Thanks again

Alphaj1 September 7th, 2009 21:27

how did you remove the ugly kit? I have a chance to buy this for 140 bucks and want to know how hard it is to take the kit off

mkeras2 September 7th, 2009 21:38

iis the solid black body actually metal???

Erennert September 7th, 2009 21:46

I doubt its metal, but full black, yes.

ratnest September 7th, 2009 22:14

i modded a thunder maul, now it has a g&p fighting cat front end, and a an/peq to put the battery in. the body is plastic but black, the gear box is black and advertised as reinforced and lipo ready, but i'm just running a 9.6v small battery in it. to take it apart just take out the screws an pull apart the clam shell body. under neath is a proprietary barrel that i think only works with the maul body, and a flat top jg black body with basic retractable m4 stock and a m4 carry handle.

then just add a front end. ( ikept mine short, so i don't know how the internal would work longer barrels.

Alphaj1 September 7th, 2009 22:17

Hmmm......me thinks this interesting

KoolAidMan September 14th, 2009 17:50

i wonder what people would do if they sold the dragon shell as a kit ;)

dubious October 19th, 2009 22:06

I bought one online last year but I got sick of the looks pretty quick. A few orders from China later I came up with this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...395800x600.jpg

Receiver is very hard plastic, but is still plastic. I actually thought it was metal for a while though :D It's that hard!

EDIT: And that pistol grip is fantastic BTW. Although if you shoot lefty it would suck alot
