Claybank Saskatchewan: Operation Mason Relic May 9, 2009
Counterfeit Combat is a relative newcomer to the Airsoft scene but stepped into the arena with two indoor CQB facilites in Melville Saskatchewan one year ago. One being 6000 sq ft, and the other being almost 60,000 sq ft. These facilites have been played and enjoyed by players from across Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta with very good reviews. Counterfeit Combat is now stepping into the outdoor game and has secured a highly unique location near Claybank, Saskatchewan. This was once home to a very successful brick manufacturing business. The brick plant opened in 1914 and ran until the 1960s producing some of Canada's finest brick products. Many of Canada's most beautiful Historical buildings still display the products that were produced in Claybank. It is now a national historic site that hosts thousands of visiters each year. Counterfeit Combat owner, and game promoter Al "CamoGames" was granted permission to use this facility on May 9th for "Operation Mason Relic". This is an Airsoft event that will feature six of the best game writers & planners in Western Canada. It will also feature a number of military vehicles, pyro, great leadership, prizes, and more. We sincerely hope you can attend what could be a once in a lifetime Airsoft event. Please explore this site for more details and visit our forum if you'd like to attend this game. Visit: http://claybank2009.com/ for more information! CamoGames has been working hard gaining access and use of this facility, over the past several months he and the following game admins have spent countless hours planning and organizing what will be one of the most unique games hosted in Western Canada. Here's an early thanks to CamoGames and his crew of game admins for making this possible: Bob "Darklen" - Red Deer, Alberta David "Gish" - Calgary, Alberta Mark "Paranoid" - Winnipeg, Manitoba Casey "Demon" - Regina, Saskatchewan Kim "Kimbo" - Calgary, Alberta Davin "CharlieTango" - Winnipeg, Manitoba Hope to see some Eastern Province Players out for this one! |
Oh.... Lucky..You even get to use vehicles.
|
Very Very Very Cool...
I need my full drivers license, take a few days off work, pack up everything I got...could be worth it, that place looks massive. |
thats awesome! how long does it takes to get there from Toronto?
|
Quote:
It's a far drive.. but it'll be sure as hell worth it!! |
I think I just spooged...
|
looks like this will be much bigger and better than BW2
|
Damn, I might have to buy a gun and check this out.
|
Just outa curiousity...how far from BC?
|
Yes this will be a very fun event. I hope it gets a huge number of people out for it. This will be very memorable, no matter how many show up though.
Hopefully the weather will be kind. It can still throw some crappy weather at you at that time of year. Normal lows, that time of year at night -3c to +4c. Highs +5c to 25c in the daytime. And there won't be leaves on trees. So bring appropriate clothing and gear for anything from -20c to +25c. Snow or rain. |

|
can you push the day back to after the 12th? lol... right in the middle of my florida vacation... fudge that place looks sweet
|
oh my gawd.... i will be pretty pissed if i miss out on this
|
If this was a multi day even, I'd attend. As far as I can tell from the site though, it's only a day so I'm going to pass on this. If I'm wrong PLEASE elt me know :P

Aw, dammit!! I'll be in Saskatoon the weekend after, so I won't be able to make this one.
|
It says on the site "black BBs only"?

Quote:
Correct. As the site is a Federal Historical Landmark, they don't want white bb's all over the place. |
Thank you BloodSport for posting this for me. I was just about to send you something to you.
Yes, this is a one day event and it will be one to remember. I was fortunate to get permission to run the game here, and I am taking the opportunity along with my admins for this event to give Canadian players something that I think is special. If you have any questions, please pm, or email me. al@counterfeitcombat.net I have had quite a few games in my CQB facilities, in Melville Sask , and had a lot of players from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta take part in those games, but I would love to see the player base reach out further for this special event. It is a long drive for players outside of Sask, but I believe it will be well worth it. Al |
|
Dark vs light? As in arpat vs cadpat?
I take it by "saw" you mean all LMG's? |
Quote:
If you don't mind going to this link, you will find a lot of answers, and get a lot of into from it. http://claybank2009.com/ Thank you Al |
Well, that's what I'm talking about.
So, a more "greener" taliban will be on the green side, where as a "whiter/taner" taliban will be on the tan side? German Field grey on the green side, and SS Oak fall side out on the tan? Or will there be more detail put into those kinds of situations. |
Oh, okay, sorry.
Yes, the teams are going to be seperated by lighter tans/browns vs greens, or as close to that as we can get. There may be situations that need looking into, yes. That was the way we thought it would work best. I hope that answers your question. |
Aww. Yes. I guess it clears it up. UNFORTUNATELY not the way my buds and I wanted it though. Haha. Ah well.
|
Quote:
What would have been better? how would it have been more satisfactory? |
I think Bootyourface was planning on using Light coloured camo and dark coloured camo ww2 german uniforms and having to fight with germans on bothsides would be confusing if only because they were two differnt shades of camo. Perhaps it would be more satistfactory if the germans were on one side out numbered 10 to 1.:)
|
Quote:
Oh, okay, well I'm sorry that won't work out for what they were planning. |
Someone should film this for Kill Haus so I can watch it:)
|
Been a few people asking how far away this is.
Basically: Regina 1 hour Moose Jaw 1/2 hour Winnipeg 7 1/2 hours Calgary 7 1/2 hours Closest Airport - Regina (WestJet and AirCanada), I also believe BearSkin Airlines flies here for those who have access to them (North Ontario, Manitoba, Sask, Alberta). From North Bay, Ontario it is about a 22 hour drive. I've done it several times not a bad trip if you have multiple drivers. Hardest Part is getting out of Ontario lol. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Nort...laybank+&2s=SK From Toronto or SW Ontario regions you may want to look at cutting across the states via Windsor and comming up through the south via Manitoba or Southern Sask. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Toro...laybank+&2s=SK About a 26 hour drive. From Vancouver it is approximately a 19 hour drive. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Vanc...laybank+&2s=SK From Kelowna it is approximately a 15 hour drive. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Kelo...laybank+&2s=SK |
Thanks for breaking that down BloodSport.

If I may ask, how many players were at BW2? |
dude this is so worth the working and slaving the extra hours for this!!
waterloo and kitchener ON, recruiting. |
If memory serves, 217 people attended BW II.
Cheers!! :) Brian |
i wish they had that in Ontario. Now ontario isn't THE best place for airsoft in canada :(
|
Saskatchewan FTW :P
|
Quote:
for locations I would have to say Saskatchewan... An old school, an old hospital... and a freakin' clay brick plant!! |
Quote:
I have two CQB's, and now access to this location at Claybank. This, as far as I'm concerned is just the beginning. I entered the Airsoft world a little over a year ago so there is a lot more to come, however, I just had a look at the BWIII location and videos, that looks pretty sweet...no? I also have interest in coming to Ontario in the future and doing something there as well. Brian, thank you, I did find that after I posted the question. That's a lot of people. |
For out of town players looking to travel in for this game and wondering about hotel rooms instead of camping at the site, Moose Jaw is 1/2 hour from Claybank.
I talked to a customer of mine who owns a couple local hotels here in Moose Jaw, May is the beginning of Tourist Season in this area so hotel rates usually jump to over $100/night. He said he will do $79 for a 2 bed room for anyone calling to make a reservation. He has bought 2 hotels here in Moose Jaw, The DreamLand (closer to the highway) and the Capone's Hideaway (downtown across the street from the liquor store and beside a bar). All rooms have TV, Highspeed Internet and Fridges. Just give him a call if you want to make reservations and tell him you were referred by Kip from GM to get the cheaper rate. Ask for Nick at 306-692-1878 Dreamland Motel: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...katchewan.html - please note the one review is from about 4 months before he bought this hotel it changed owners 3 times in the past 2 years. Capone's Hideaway: http://www.yellowpages.ca/bus/Saskat...e=Moose+Jaw+SK - he just bought this one a month ago. |

I could see this for 2 days, but for one its not worth the trip.
Total bummer, if you can get it for 2 days next time I could see alot more people at least from the west making the trip. |
Quote:
The next one I do will be two days for sure. I was hoping, but I didn't know it was going to get this big. I am getting pm's from a long way away, great to see. To bad it won't work out for you this time around. |

And its official I know of atleast one person making the trip from Ontario (Deep River area) so those saying this is a long trip for 1 day he's making a 2900km treck, mind you he's flying into Regina from Toronto, but still making it out lol. |

As a sponsor of this event, I would just like to say, I wish it was closer and I could attend and meet you all, but, please enjoy the product I`ve sent to the game and most of all, HAVE FUN! This game looks very well organized with terrific props and a switched on and organized hosting crew. You can`t ask much more than that!
Good luck to everyone. PLAY SAFE AND CALL YOUR HITS! |
Oh yeah, someone take some pictures of the BB Bastard banner. I`d love to see it in the field.
|
Thanks to all the sponsors for their prizes and of course to my fellow admin staff for running it. Bob you did a fantastic job being lead admin my man. You delt with the issues at hand the best way possible for the best possible outcome of the game. Casey how many miles did you end up walking? Al ran a tight ship and for the first time I saw an airsoft event briefing and game start within 15 mins of intended .. and to those PDW and my fellow Wolfpack members for pitching in when 200 people showed up to sign in, and at the chrono etc... You went to play and volunteered your time to work. Shows the community what you are made of!
I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. Mark (paranoid) and I had a blast running you around in the trucks. apparently the site operators said "that was great, see you next year" to Al so with any luck we can get back to those canyons and hammer it out! Mark will be hosing his pictures shortly I am sure. Keep your eye on http://markf.zenfolio.com/f191372317 |
That was without a doubt the most amazing airsoft game I've ever been to!
Admins, you did an amazing job keeping everything very well organized, and were very professional in dealing with problems. Alpha team, Cleric and MickeyWang, it was an honor and a privelage to play with you all, everyone did a great job out there! Thanks to our sponsors for all the prizes, even though I didn't win a gun lol And I look forward to playing with you guys next year, and some of you at operation coldfront |
Thanks to all the admins, volunteers, sponsors, Camogames and the Claybank Historical Society for getting this game off the ground.
Dav and the rest of the `Peggers, was good seeing you guys again and getting a chance to share the field. With luck, PDW may be able to start travelling again this year too. Btw...can we possibly get MORE ASC hats to give away next time ;) |
lol ya the hats were awsome lol. All of our group ended up getting one pretty quick in, was sad till they tossed all the names back on the box there for the guns :D

I am extremely happy with the outcome of this event.
When I started with this idea 9-10 months ago, I hoped that it would have had an ending like this, and yesterday it all came together to be one of the most unique games (from what players tell me) they have ever seen, or been a part of. The outcome of this one, along with the pictures, film, and the National Historical Sites final words on the game will open doors that were previously closed to the Airsoft community in Canada. A very big thank you to all the Sponsors of { Claybank2009 } 007 Airsoft - Calgary Alberta Capital Airsoft & Tactical - Edmonton Alberta Canadian Airgun Supply - Red Deer Alberta Amos Airsoft - Winnipeg Manitoba BB Bastard - Canada airsoftpartscanada.ca - Toronto Ontario Quinn The Eskimo - Regina Saskatchewan ILLusion Airsoft - Scarborough Ontario Plastic Soldier Airsoft - Calgary Alberta ASC Mart - Canada Thank you all for being a big part of it, it was simply awesome. P.S. Great Pics Mark!! |
Here's a selection of some of the pic that I took while we were setting up scenario 3 as well as during scenario 3. It seems some of you have already found the gallery, thanks for the comments.

Thanks to all involved in this -- Camogames, Claybank Historical Society, all the rest of the Admin crew, everyone else who volunteered time and helped with props, the gate, chrony, etc... and to the players -- seeing people have a good time airsofting makes all the work worth it.
See you guys at the next one. :) C. |
