MP5 Mount and Tasco

I was just thinking about this...with a JG MP5, would you NEED a mount to attach a Tasco Red Dot? I have the mount on the way, but I'm just wondering if I really need it?

Skladfin March 17th, 2009 01:07

yes, you need the claw mount

Kuro_Neko March 17th, 2009 03:05

And even then you might not be able to mount it, depending on the clamp on the rds and the type of claw mount. I noticed on the CA low profile claw mount I recently purchased the the way it's designed any sight with one wide clamp won't fit on it. you need one with two seperate smaller clamps.

or you just mod the RDS mount so that it fits. :p I took a dremel and trimed off the vertical edge on the mounts rails so that it cleared.

I don't have the tools, knowhow or handyness to do mods like that but it's certainly an option if you have those things.

I highly reccomend this lovely piece of work:
http://ebaybanned.com/product_info.php?products_id=1308

They are copies of the G&G Low Profile Mount of which I have purchased several of for my various MP5s

Mounted on my MP5:

Yup, that'll work without mods to the scope, I have the G&G one on my MP5A5 after learning the painful lesson that my TM low profile mount wouldn't accept the Tasco RDS I wanted to put on my MP5SD............ out came the Dremel and cut off the front part of the RDS mount.

I bought the Tasco today, and when i turned it on, no dot was showing up! I think it might be the battery because I think it was on a brightness setting when i bought it, so the battery is dead already. Has this happened to anyone else?

mail order or walk in store? return it if it's suppose to have a battery. otherwise, just get a new one. they a buck or less depending where you buy them. I've found some no name brand at the dollar store for a buck plus tax but I get Energizers from work cheaper.

I bought my CA red dot for my MP5 and the battery was dead, just buy a new one.

If you have a Dollarama there, they sell three packs of the same battery for a buck. I usually stock up on them once in a while since I have three Red dots and also my calculator at work uses it.

Eeyore March 26th, 2009 11:13

My Tasco battery was also dead when I bought it a while ago. Make sure your windage and elevation knobs work. The windage on the first two I bought didn't work.

AngelusNex March 26th, 2009 11:27

My tasco sight needed to meet mister dremel before it fit on my marui low profile claw mount. Get that other one that was shown, from ebaybanned. woulda been nice if I got that instead as the one i have limits my options for optics.

Roses.A.T.W. March 26th, 2009 16:21

I should've found this thread last week. Haha, I ordered my mount last week and I've had the same problem soooo, I'll have to see if we have a dremel laying around.

Erennert March 26th, 2009 18:16

I bought it directly at Canadian Tire, in store. I'm almost positive it's the battery though because the side of the package was already open, which means someone just took it back and probably accidentally left the scope on. Oh well, picking up some batteries soon and I'll give you guys an update if it works or not.

Erennert March 27th, 2009 21:35

Worked! All i needed to do was get the new battery, $1.50 ea, not bad.

+1. I picked up a 3 pack at a dollar store in Lachine for xmas holidays for $1.

Erennert March 27th, 2009 23:12

Are prices better in Ontario then? The cheapest I could find them was a $1.50 a piece.

Everything is better in Ontario. Except for maybe pot and cheap hookers, if that's your thing.
