Gearbox reliability
 

Sup fellow ASC members I own a generic MP5 SD6 (maybe well, not sure)
and well like all generic AEG's they have a crappy clear Gearbox, since i'm not Age Verified (Probably not anytime soon) I am going to buy a replacement gearbox that's cheap

is it decent? workable?

BTW the generic MP5 isn't my only gun, I also own a TopTech HK416 and a JG M4a1 (Thanks 007)

In regards to the clear mechbox for that MP5, the majority of clear mechboxed guns Ive had the chance to look at have mechboxes that are smaller than that of the standard sized mechbox.

Would you be able to provided any pictures at all?

If the dimensions are the same, then I suppose you are good to go, pending if the motor you currently have is able to crank the piston in the mechbox you linked. However since that is a mechbox for an M4, you will require to change out the selector plate to one for an MP5.

did you just tell the community that a retailer sold a nonclear gun to someone Under 18?

If your mp5 is of the clear variety available at walmart or cdn tire, a standard mechbox won't fit. Their parts aren't replacable or compatible with anything. Onceits dead, it's dead. Also, while mp5 and m4s share a V2 mechbox, there are different parts like the trigger, cylinder, and nozzle. So even if you had a TM compatible mp5, that box wouldn't fit.

a mate just replaced his clear walmart m4 gear box with the jg ver 2 metal gearbox, he said it just dropped right in. he wants to make a "sleeper", as almost everyone we play with has the walmart m4, so now his m4 is shooting about 350ish FPS instead of 270ish, i said he was crazy - but he did it anyway.
so it'll be trial and error - if you want to spend the 100$ on it and try, go for it...

And my MP5 isn't from walmart, it's from this place in richmond called "Night Market" I know it fits TM gearboxes because my HK416 fits perfectly, but i need to use the HK416 AND the MP5

Yes, that dboys mechbox is worth the 40 bucks plus shipping, to answer your question. As far as anyone else is concerned, he never said he was under 18, not being age verified does not equal minor.

Just because he's not age verified does not mean he's under 18. 007 is not at present a retailer on ASC, therefore 007 does not have to subscribe to our Age Verification process. They are free to verify the identity of and sell to whomever they wish, however they wish.

Some of the Walmarts do stock some of the asian rebrands that do fit a standard v2. However the majority of the ones Ive seen have metal gear boxes already. However I cannot comment on the quality of the internals since Ive never sullied my hands with one.

I just said it's not a walmart gun...it's a gun I bought from the night market....I think the sellers were the people who ran the only Vancouver airsoft store..

To answer your questions, yes JG gearboxes are decent, but me being not very tech savvy with gear boxes, I'm not sure if it will fit. Although if it is Compatible with other China brands as you have said, that gearbox should work, provided you do what T7 said. Switch the selector plate to an mp5, or find a mp5 box.

My very first airsoft gun was a tippman I got when I was 16 I think, I kept it around and now pretty much the only thing left that's tippmann is the metal outer barrel. I also used a JG mechbox and am pleased with it. Mine was a v3 though, for an AK.

Tippman makes airsoft? I thought it was just RAP4

I'm the guy that put the v2 mechbox in the walmart M4 field duty kit by DPMS(PANTHER ARMS). It does fit, but it's tight...It was actually the mechbox from my well cqb bought from huang. The only problem I had so far is that on auto the screws that hold the motor plate on pulled out. I did get around 10 shots through my chrono before I tried auto, and it shot from 342-357 fps. LOL If you want pics, I'll take it apart and show you... and I still have the plastic gearbox that came with the M4...

Your link didn't work... I bought that V2 DBoys. It is not such a grat deal for $50, instead, buy that complete JG V2 with motor from velocityarms, who has free shipping as well, for $99.99. The JG has a plastic cylinder head, mine came with a tappet plate that snapped when I tried to remove it, and I can almost guarentee a clearsoft motor will not pull a 400FPS spring, since a stock CA motor can't. But JG motors are actually pretty decent, and their mechboxes are Systema copies (or so I read).
