Best Motor for high fps upgrade

Im looking to build a really high fps aeg. we're talking m170 or higher spring think shooting over 500 fps :/ not sure until i get it all done, got everything else worked out but what motor would be best for it?

Troy T. Moore April 15th, 2009 08:10

Just curious for what purpose? >500fps is a little too hot for most games in Canada, no?

KILLvino April 15th, 2009 08:30

for plinking i guess, def not for games. more just cause i can lol

Crunchmeister April 15th, 2009 08:50

If it's a V2 mechbox, even reinforced, it's not going to last long with a spring that powerful.

KILLvino April 15th, 2009 08:52

its vers 3. its not going to be shot alot. as i said its more of a just cause i can thing.

Probably an EG1000 or equivalent (high torque) with torque up gears.

CDN_Stalker April 15th, 2009 09:40

EG700 rocks the EG1000 any day for torque (and is quieter). And if you are just plinking you won't care about rate of fire since you'd be semi most of the time.

I'd recommend the systema Magnum motor with Infinity torque up gears, a M170 is a heavy spring I had a pain of a time sticking in an M150. Also recommend sorbo dampender and sorbo piston head they'll save your gearbox from breaking after a few shots

my EG700 must be near the end of it's life. My EG1000 is silent compared to it. I just tested them the other day outside of the grip and the 700 was way louder.

You will forsure need a large battery.

Ya, maybe. I had an EG1000 in my MP5 for a year, then went back to the EG700 that came with it (honestly, the tabs on my 1000 had broken off over time and I was fed up with soldering/unsoldering when working on my gun) and found the gun ran quieter and with a bit higher rate of fire too. No going back for me!

9.6v large battery and Systema Magnum motor.

KILLvino April 15th, 2009 11:19

roger, think ill go with a magnum if i can get my hands on one, or eg700 second choice.
for battery would a lipo be okay?

AngelusNex April 15th, 2009 11:22

I was just about to say you'll need a lipo for that.

Ah, I knew one was better for torque and one was better for lower FPS, higher speed setups (eg530 [or was it 560] excluded).. couldn't remember which was which.

KILLvino April 15th, 2009 11:42

thats what i thought alright lipo it is.

Amos April 15th, 2009 13:59

... If you're plinking you don't need a lipo.

With the stress that the high strength spring will put on the motor I wouldn't feel comfortable using LI-po in there... definatly if you're going to be shooting indoors or around your house.

Lipo = more juice for a smaller space... but you don't need that.

Go with some high end torque gears, a half-tooth piston and a nice strong motor.

But.. why not just make a gun that's within field limits so if you infact want to use it you can?

you wont really see that big of a performance increase between 400 and 500 FPS.

CJay April 15th, 2009 14:11

i can tell you from bitter experience ur hopup is gonna take a major hit in the performance department - i went over 400 fps and it was extremely unreliable - it was an M4 thought so I'm not too sure about other types out there.

KILLvino April 18th, 2009 23:31

hm. so no lipo? its more of an ultimate plinking machine.
and im not shooting it in the house... itll break things for sure.
just in the back. i have high fences and a big yard.

damn. didnt know about the hopup thing. never thought about it :(.

i have other guns to field with :P this is just THE ultimate plinker :)
