Anyone ever made there own Gun Case?

I didnt know where to put this so I threw it in accessories.

Im sick of bringing my whole box to my games! The box is 2x bigger than it needs to be and its just a pain in the arse.

I seem to be pretty handy at my age with carpentry etc, for science I just made a working hovercraft

So anyone have any tips on materials? As in the overall frame, then also the material which houses the gun, ammo, accessories etc.

Or even if you have made one post your opinion and a picture if youd like.

thanks....

mike

While I'm sure it's not too hard to make one, wouldn't it be easier to buy a hard shell gun case for $30 or modify an existing guitar case to house your guns?

I already looked into the guitar case. That is what im looking for too, objects I could modify into a usable gun case.

I really would rather build it, yeh I actually am a cheap-oo. I hardly spend my money and I hope its a good thing.

Comforts in life are worth spending money on. Gun cases are not something you want to cheap on too much, or else when you're traveling the guns could fall out in public. :\

CDN__Player May 3rd, 2009 16:56

Not something i'm to worried about.

My gun hasn't really been near the "Public" and probably never will.

Just go to Ctire.. Single hard plastic cases are 15 bucks, doubles are 30.

CDN__Player May 3rd, 2009 17:03

How could I forget good ol' canadian tire!

I shall browse the websight..

Case from CTIRE

This isnt bad, but is it too short to hold an M4 comfortably?

dpvu May 3rd, 2009 17:12

It's not too short. You may have to take the carry handle/optics off of it but in terms of length, it's fine.

CDN__Player May 3rd, 2009 17:14

Ill stop by there asap and in the mean time put any more of your opinions down!

thanks for the help

53-5/8 x 12-1/8 x 3-3/4" (136 x 31 x 9.5 cm)

Break out a tape measure and eye the gun, double check before you buy. Also, the double gun case is only $50.

Crunchmeister May 3rd, 2009 17:19

I have both the single and double FLambeau cases from Cdn Tire. I can easily fit any of my guns (except the SAW) into that single case, or it can comfortably fit 2 SMGs. The double easily fits 2 full rifles.

L473ncy May 3rd, 2009 17:47

I've got the exact same case. It appears to be the same case but I don't know, it's probably a different manufacturer, I got mine at Walmart BTW.

It should fit an M4 with crane stock retracted.

My gun with optics on it (simple RDS) fits perfectly inside widthwise, lengthwise I've got room for 5 or so mags. Heightwise.... well it fits my M4 with the PEQ box mounted on the top.

CDN__Player May 3rd, 2009 17:50

I have a fixed full stock on my M4, and RDS mounted. So I am fine with this case?

It fits my CA M15 rifle with full stock and Elcan scope mounted, so I would assume that an M4 wouldn't be a problem, stock retracted or not...

In order to fit 2 rifles in the double case though, I need to remove the optics.

I also bought the flambeau case yesterday, seems to work quite nicely with my M4. I was able to fit 8 magazines, my gun (with scope) my P226 and 2 magazines for that as well, and it held the contents solidly when shut. A steal at $30.

However, modifying a guitar case would be pretty badass, especially if you showed up to games dressed as Antonio Banderas in "desperado"

Crunchmeister May 3rd, 2009 18:46

A guitar case will be my next project, actually. I want to make a custom foam insert that will hold my 2 outdoor guns snugly in place.

coach May 3rd, 2009 18:59

crunch, use a bass hard case. you'll have to pull the divider that the neck rests on but it would be a good case to work with. I might do it to mine since my bass has been in a soft case for years.

CDN__Player May 3rd, 2009 19:08

I only have a soft case

I play electric, when I play with my school (not like music class or anything, its just hangout and play) I am always on lead. Right now im just finishing up "Little Wing," but Im learning the cover version by my boy stevie ray vaughn!

Already one step ahead. Been eyeing this up for a while...

Cheap too. I've dealt with Rondo Music on several occasions and always awesome, fast service. For $90 US (plus $30 shipping + about $30 Cdn in duties / brokerage). Cheapest I can get an aluminum bass flight case for locally is $275 + tax... I bought a case from them for my ESP Explorer a couple of years ago, and came out to about $175 Cdn total. Cheapest I could get one locally for (for a Gibson case) was almost $300...

CDN__Player May 3rd, 2009 19:49

Its a good lookin case.

You bet... :D

I just figured if I'm going to go the custom case route, I might as well get the nicest, strongest case I can for my money. And at that price, that's pretty reasonable for an aluminum bass flight case.

KND May 3rd, 2009 21:51

I have one of this and it suit me good from day one.

Yes, they are very nice case. I got mine along with trade but shipping this case is paint ahes plus I rarely use it because I don't have car and mostly use public transportation like Metro and Bus so soft gun case suit me better but once I got lift, this case can fit my full length M4, 10 mag, Glock 19 with 4 mag and Eotech 552 as well.
