I can't believe how good a job G&G did with the reproduction of this rifle. Sorry I don't have more/better, photos, but I will try to get better ones up ASAP.

Left = Airsoft

Right = Real Steel

I've seen the airsoft version up close...that gun is built very well with lots of attention to detail, not to mention it has lots of metal !!!

Lakonian September 10th, 2009 14:10

Left = RS
Right = Airsoft

Unless... that's a Black special..... Then it'd be vice versa..

sorry dude, the left is the airsoft one. G&G as a matter of fact. they recently made a 550 with green furniture. Its supposed to be a great rifle, especially stock according to the review on redwolf.

@ the OP, please post a review and pics when you can :)

cooney September 10th, 2009 14:20

left Airsoft
right real steel

attack-beaver September 10th, 2009 14:39

I would say right is a Swiss arms black special. Reason - none of the airsoft 550's to my memory are totally black, out of the box that is.

FOX_111 September 10th, 2009 15:05

The with of the body is a giveaway. Left is thicker.

And you can see part of the clear mag on the right one, wich look like the real deal.

lol I dunno. I've never gone to bed with the RS. Wouldn't be able to tell the difference :p

panzergrenadier September 10th, 2009 16:18

Also the cocking handle on the right one looks more robust... whereas the left one looks a little flimsy for RS

Doesn't look much flimsier than the one I handled :

My guess is the right is real steel because the receiver looks slightly thinner. Most AEGs typically have slightly wider receivers than their real steel counterparts to accomodate the mechbox.

Keep in mind it's 5.56, its not a big heavy round!

Yes but still... given how far the cocking handle comes out I doubt the manufacturers would put shitty cocking handle on it... Cocking handles break all the time on RS rifles. I've broken cocking handles on C9s before and the "tactical" cocking handle on the C7A2s break all the time as well.
But then again they do make the shitty "tactical" cocking handles for the C7A2.

NavyShooter September 10th, 2009 18:10

PG,

We've broken 10% of the cocking handles on our unit's issued A2's. (The new "tactical" extended ones)

Had a discussion with the EME's on it already, and they're considering putting in a solid pin instead of the roll pin.

Lakonian September 10th, 2009 18:32

Roll pins don't belong anywhere near high stress parts, IMHO.

NavyShooter September 10th, 2009 18:34

Pass that on to Colt Canada....PLEASE....

Thanks again to you bazza. Also, upon measuring the width of the receivers.... the two are the same width, about 35mm. And the pistol grip feels the proper size. (I also have a JG/Hurricane 552), and the grip is larger than my RS Black Special. (There was a big clue, eh?)
Weight distribution is the same, and the two are close to the same weight. About 7.5 lbs for airsoft to 8.5 lbs for RS.
