Buying some parts soon.

Hey ASC, I need a little bit of advice on this one...

So a few months ago my ICS M4 died on me, and after a little bit of researching and testing, I found out it was the switch assembly. I've finally decided to go ahead and buy one from airsoftparts.ca , and figured that while I'm at it, I might aswell buy a couple more small parts. This is where I could use a little advice.

I am looking for a new/better hop up. I was looking at this, http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...roducts_id=804

The thing is, I am aslo looking to boost my FPS a little. Hopefully to around 360-370. It says that this hopup unit works best with FPS's around 350. Should I choose a hopup that is rated for above 350, or does 10-20 fps not make a big difference? And also, is this a good hopup overall? At hop up units being such a low cost, I wouldn't mind paying a little more for the best.

And I am wondering if this spring will boost my FPS to where I want it (360-370), http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...roducts_id=574 .

And finally, is this switch assembly good quality, and will it fit without modification? http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...oducts_id=1017

Thanks in advance.

First off, the Madbull hop-up rubber/bucking combo is shit. Any gun Ive seen with it has had major air leak problems and the performance is sub-par. If you want a good hopup try Guarder clear, Prometheus or Firefly. From my understanding hard rubbers are for 350+FPS and soft rubbers are for sub 350FPS, other than the Guarder which has been rated for sub 400FPS for the soft. Also soft rubbers tend to wear down allot quicker, but they are cheap as hell, so when ordering get a couple to have spares on hand.

M120 springs will give you roughly 400FPS, depending on your setup and whatnot. An M90 sounds like what you should be aiming for.

And for the switch assembly Ive heard good things about the G&P switch but no first-hand experience.

L473ncy February 6th, 2010 22:50

If you ask me, Prometheus Soft. I know that someone was also recommending the Guarder Clear/Black too.

IMO if you really ask me 10-20 FPS isn't that much but if you really want to upgrade it then I've been told that Modify isn't that bad and the S100 (I believe it was rated for 370-380 FPS) or S110 (slightly shy of 400 FPS) is probably the ones you want.

I'm not sure about the switch assembly though, you'll have to wait for someone else to reply.

Thanks for the help, I think I'll go for this gaurder hop up, http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...roducts_id=642

And here, http://www.shortyusa.com/airsoft.htm...7.192&CA=&RID=
it says that I should expect FPS to be about 330, which is what I currently have.

Rock 'N' Roll Outlaw February 6th, 2010 23:07

Hmmm, maybe when that person tested his S100 spring his reading showed 300-330FPS but thats not the normal rating. S100 is equivalent of an M100 spring (just because the number is the same doesn't mean its rated the same, every company is different) and an M100 is rated for 360-380 FPS with .20s

Odd.... I'm confused too since according to the Modify FTK's I've been looking at the S110 should be producing just shy of 400. Also the Modify S80 is the 1J spring so.... yeah.... maybe someone could clarify that?

rokor February 6th, 2010 23:38

Alright, well I think I'm going to lay off finalizing my decision about the spring untill I can comfirm whats going on :P

I have another quick question, what magazines are compatible with my ICS?

Styrak February 7th, 2010 00:07

Should be any.

Lucuis February 7th, 2010 01:22

I'm using a Modify S90 spring in my ak and get ~335fps with 0.20g bbs.

Shooting Addict February 7th, 2010 08:29

Theres a spring comparison test
http://www.airsoftparts.ca/news/modifyspringtest.pdf

rokor February 7th, 2010 13:37

I really appreciate the responses. After your help and a couple of PMs I recieved, I think I'll go with the S100.

And is there a certain company I should stick with for mags? I don't want to break the bank with these. I was hoping to get 2 for about 50$, would you recommend King Arms magazines?

Don't forget, that is with an entire mechbox made of modify parts, it would probably have a very good air-seal, better then most guns.

If you looking for a little over 350, i would use a M100+ tight-bore barrel

Although that chart is a good base point to compare the velocity between different springs, it can't really be used to predict an accurate velocity from any given spring. There are too many other variables in a gun that produce its given FPS.

I am canadian, but I wasn't planning on buying from them. I was just using that link as a comparason.

And I will eventually upgrade my M4 more, so I will be hoping for about 370 after; new barrel(6.04?), new nozzle, new piston head(looking at the Angel silent combo), and probably a new motor(something high torque most likely).

And I just ordered that EoTech clone from DealExtreme, should come in a few weeks.

L473ncy February 7th, 2010 14:49

Angel.... that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. As an aside does anyone know whatever happened to them?

Before when I just joined it sounded like it was a "big name brand" but just stopped receiving attention and people stopped advertising that their guns had Angel parts in them (kind of like how some people say "All SystemA parts" or "all Prometheus parts" or "all Laylax parts").

As for mags, I personally go with the Magpul "Green Label" Mags (their "cheaper" line of mags). STAR (or ARES should I say) is their OEM manufacturer and I've been happy with the STAR mags I have right now and so bought some of those green label ones, haven't tested them out yet but they're affordable and if you lose one then so what it's not $15 down the drain rather it's like $8 down the drain (hopefully you find it in the end though).

I forgot that in my original post thanks for pointing that out. And for mags if you want mid caps can't go wrong with CA mags they feed flawlessly in my buddy's G&G not sure about ICS compatibility. He uses these 2 http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...oducts_id=1560 and http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...oducts_id=1522

A few points.

When buying barrels, the actual size doesn't really matter as much as the brand does. Prometheus is generally considered the best brand to buy inner barrels from. They stuff they produce is VERY high quality. If you are on a budget, Madbul v2 barrels are decent for the money.

As for nozzles, piston heads, and most other mechbox parts, I still recommend Prometheus, or, if your on a bit of a budget, modify. You can buy just tons of great modify parts in canada from airsoftparts.ca

Also, don't forget, ICS hop-ups are not compatible with after-market hop-up chambers without modification.

rokor February 10th, 2010 12:55

I have devised a list of the parts I'm going to be buying, but I would rather buy them in person. Are there any retail stores in the GTA that would have mainly a M4/m16 switch assembly?

pusangani February 10th, 2010 14:00

airsoftparts.ca is in the gta

Thanks, would you know if they have a retail store, or somewhere I can stop by? I can't seem to find an adress on their site.

pusangani February 10th, 2010 14:58

Pm jugglez

Green February 10th, 2010 15:02

Hey,

With regards to your post about upgrades: I own an ICS M4 and have put well over $1000 worth of upgrades into it so from experience, I would suggest not changing the nozzle because it will more than likely cause feeding issues. Stick with the stock ICS one.

For mags, the king arms ones work well and are a great value.

http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...roducts_id=879

For alittle more than you budgeted for you can get 5 full metal mags that feed well.

Hop up rubbers: go guarder clear....cheap and work really well with your targeted FPS

If you have any other questions, pm me and I'll reply as quick as I can

PS: Stick with airsoftparts.ca Best service you can get and local aswell!!

rokor February 10th, 2010 15:46

Thanks for the advice Greenpunk, I'll change my list around a little bit. I think I might stick with the standard Hi cap mag untill I realize how much I reload, and what type of mag I would like the most.

And thanks Pusangani, will do.

pusangani February 10th, 2010 16:43

You will never get a sense of reloading with a hicap, best to get some midcaps or go to a game and ask to borrow some mags so u see whether u need mid aps or locaps or realcaps.

Even if u get midcaps and don't like them u can always just sell or trade them for lows/reals

rokor February 10th, 2010 20:52

I think I may just dive in a get a few mid caps then. Thanks.

rokor February 15th, 2010 19:02

I've been searching around for some metal revievers, and I can't seem to find any. A member on this site said they can only(rarely) be purchased on the classifiedss, is this the only way I can get my hands on a set(upper and lower, mainly looking for lower).

Pretty much yes. We treat receivers the same as full guns (and so does CBSA for importation, since the receiver is the "gun" in Canadian gun laws)

The lower receiver is restricted, or the "gun". You can get an upper receiver anywhere you want

Boyso May 11th, 2010 22:29

Sorry for bumping this thread, but if you don't mind Rokor, I have a question about the Madbull Hop up.

I read somewhere there was some fitment issues when using the Madbull Hop up + Guarder Clear + Python V2.

Can anyone confirm please?

Thank you very much!
