Flashlight

Hey guys,

I'm looking at getting a flashlight for my AEG and was wondering what is the difference between the Xenon and LED lights??

Also, what amount of Lumens is bright enough? Would 270Lm be okay, or should I go to a 500Lm??

Thanks.

LED is for Light Emitting Diode. It's the new technologie.
Xenon is the old tech.

LED taclights last usually longer and are more shock resistant.

For a taclight, 60lum is the bare minimum.
Something around 80-120lum is best for CQB. If you go over that, you will blind yourself.
Also, over that, you will have less runtime. a Typical 80lum light that run on 2 CR123 batteries will last 60 minutes of continuous use. That is the figure for incandecent bulb (Xenon) and LED should be a bit more depending on the output.

When choosing a light, be sure to chose one that have a good reflector inside. Surefire, Fenix and other tactical light makers have good reflectors, that make a nice even beam.

You don't want a beam that look like the one on a Maglight, with the dark hole in the middle.

If you want a good benchmark, check out the reviews on Surefire lights. They are all good. Then you can compare with other manufacturers.

Pelican and Wolfeyes make good tac lights as well. Maglite suck donkey balls at the best of times. Streamlight aren't too bad either.

I've always been a fan of M3 taclights, i have a G&P, sure, it's for pistols, but its compact and doesnt take up rail space on my SCAR, and its very bright, 9 volt bulb and rechargeable cells

G&P R500 Scorpion Tac-Lite. 500 Lumens, Rechargable. Worth Every Cent If your a night game fanatic like me.

Both from Personal Experience, and from those who it was used against.

I own two of these units. One with a built in armalite handguard in DE and a RAS mount in OD

If you have the dough for it, its one of the best on the market. Its been described by others to "turn night into day."

Extremely Durable, Lasts a LONG time, Extremely reliable.

Nuff said.

500 lumens? Holy crap. My friends 60 lumen headlamp we use for camping is bright. I can't even imagine that. You could fly a friggin helicopter with that thing.

I have the Surefire E2D Led and it's awesome. I use it for practical purposes as well.

The O-Light brand flashlights that Duy at airsoftparts.ca sells are great little torches, various brightness (including map and strobe) make it extremely versitile.

I'm a little crazy but I got myself a 1000Lm LED tac light for CQB... sure helps to light up the dark side of the arena. Its good and bad like all other things. But sure blinds my opponents. hehehe!
