ICS MA-56 Upgrade Kit Came With Zero Instructions!
 
Picked up the above and can't figure out the piston head part. Here's what I've done so far;

Anyone know how it goes together? Images would help. lol I searched High and low online for answers but hit a wall. Damn you ICS for not including ANY instructions!

Split the gold/silver thing in half.

Remove the screw from the black piston.

The gold pistol head goes in front of your black piston.

The silver half of goes inside of the your black piston.

The screw goes into the countersink of the silver half of the piston head.

This may be of some help.

Put a little gear grease on the bearing. Put some blue loctite on the screw. Assemble it and let it sit for 24 hrs. to let the loctite cure.

Things never got "worse." The piston came like that. I did nothing to it except take the screw out. It didn't come with the piston head in the piston like the one on the video I have. Bottom line is I know how to assemble everything except this stupid head.

I'm also trying to learn how to do things myself so taking it to a gun doc is the easy way out. I'd rather fudge the build and have to buy another one and at least learn than just walk away when it gets a little rough. I thought that's what we're here for? To help one an other learn things related to the sport, Just saying.

The gold piston doesn;t need to be split. Take the gold piston head and put it on front of piston. Stack the 3 bearing pieces on the inside of the piston. Order being washer/bearing/washer then put the silver screw retainer in the piston followed by the screw to hold it all together. The bearing goes on the inside the piston to let your spring move more freely and not bind.

I noticed that the little protrusion on the piston head doesn't fit in the hole of the black piece, it looks as if there should be a washer in between, or is there suppose to be a gap? Also the last piece should it be facing the way it is in the pic or reverse?

No it should fit tight in the bore, but some parts need to be "fitted" together sometimes...

Some parts are press fit, requires a mallet or a press. I understand that you are trying to learn, no problem with that, but it seems like you are lacking some fundamental technical experience.

The bearings should seat onto post, then the screw inserted into it, where the head of the screw will sit flush against the countersunk post. In other words, turn the "last piece" the other way.

Grip the gold piston head and start driving in the screw. The piston head piston will self-press.

Yes, in that order, and yes, that little raised section will fit in the hole of the piston.
It's easier to get a magnetized screw driver, put the screw on it and then stack the bushing/washer/bearing/washer on it. Then insert all that in the piston, and finally place the head on the tip and screw it.

Also, the spring might have denser coils at one tip. That end goes on the spring guide, not inside the piston.
When it's time to close the shell, take a screw driver that fits in the hole at the rear of the spring guide and hold the assembly in place with it.

I have been gundoc for nearly 10 years and I NEVER needed a press to get anything in or out. If you do, you are doing something VERY wrong. Worst that was needed was a punch and a tap from the handle of a large screw driver, not even a hammer.

Finally, the only way to learn is to try. If it breaks, you learn what not to do. If it works, you learn how to do it.

Yes that is the order. Only thing is the silver retainer on the right beside the screw needs to flipped the other way. As far as it not fitting in the front press it in real hard all the way till it is flush with the piston. If you cant press it in take a circular file to the hole on the piston. Just a little bit though. It should be a tight fit.

Using a press doesn't necessarily mean you are using excessive amounts of force. It is used to simply fit together flush male and female material accurately in a parallel manner so the edges on the face aren't crushed if done so at an angle by freehand.
