Usefulness of Ghillie suits on small-medium fields?
 

Hey, I was wondering whether it would be worth it to make a ghillie suit. So far, we've only been able to play on smaller fields, so I was wondering how large would a field have to be to reap the benefits of a ghillie suit? I mean, it always looks cool to have a guy in a ghillie, but it's usually hot, smelly, and if it doesn't help, why put yourself through that?

If you want to infiltrate erea with little conceilement, a ghillie is what you need to hide yourself.

Small field does not mather if you have the time to employ the ghillie.

When using a ghillie, you should not be moving around much, so if you plan on running from cover to cover, it won't help you at all.

You saw how it worked for the other guy you mentionned, now if you play like him, it won't work for you too.

I employ my ghillie suit mainly on long missions where I have to lay in one spot for a long time to observe, or to infiltrate a patrolled erea. Our field are usually always patrolled and we snipers should always assume we are watched, thus making slow, calculated moves all the time. The ghillie come in handy when stalking a target or just remaining hidden where normal 2D camoflage or cover is not enough.

I used one before to conceal myself so that (in a 10 plyr skirmish) I could single handedly hold one flank to keep the other players funneling into my teams fire. You need to move as little as possible or it's just a useless personal heater that gets caught on everything.

One of my friends is also making a ghillie suit. He's just getting an old overall suit and gluing some camo fabric on there. Not the fanciest, but from what I've seen it looks cool. Also, I'd recommend picking up some plastic leaves or fake moss from the dollar store. It will really help.

If you're worried about it being too hot, a good idea would be to look for some kind of mesh material. I haven't seen a lot, but it would be the perfect thing for those hot days.

If he likes dollar store stuff for it, tell him to buy a bunch of raffia grass, soak it and hang it to dry. Is very strong (is why it's used to wrap fancy gifts with, strong as string) and is a natural dead grass colour, in about 2-3ft lengths.

A ghillie suit would work on any size field. Don't think that because your field is medium sized that a ghillie suit would be less effective. With a good ghillie suit, they can even see you duck behind a tree or tall grass and within seconds they could lose you. In fact, I think a ghillie suit would be a huge advantage in a small field.
