Piranha Peak Charger with G&P 9.6V battery
Hey guys, Im charging my G&P 9.6V 2300mAH battery for the first time. Im using my Piranha charger and im charging it at 0.9A, 8mV/C for delta peak. When i look on the LCD screen of my charger, the Output Voltage reads 10.95V and the Input Voltage to Charger is 15.71V.
My questions are, these two voltage values are higher than the rated 9.6V of my G&P battery. Is this normal? Will it damage my battery? |

I read all the battery charging questions on the forum, and i recall (Amos and others) mentioned that you should never charge over 1C = Capacity/1000. And since this is my first charge, it was advised from other posts that a slow charge should be delivered initially, so thats why I set it at 0.9A. Others have mentioned that 0.9A should be delivered to capacities 1800mAH or less, and 1.8A to 1800mAH or greater.

Charging slow doesn't heat up the battery as much as if you put the amps higher. On a full charge, the battery volt will read a little bit higher than what the battery is. That's why on a freshly charged battery, it will shoot a bit fast than a battery that has been used and shot a few times after charging.

Charging at 0.9A is probably the best and it will preserved the battery. It won't heat up the battery too bad. I would only use the 1.8A if I needed the battery within an hour but I'll keep a very close eye on it. 0.9A is the best for the battery.

According to the manual that came with my charger, the min cell charge of a NiMH battery is 1.0V/cell. They can be charged at 1-2C depending on cell performance.
So a dead battery should read about 8v and on my 8.4v I think the full charge was about 12v on the multi -metere. |
