Anyone know if this piston head is any good? Anyone well versed enough in chemistry to know what "craphite fiber" is composed of? It's fairly pricey as far as piston heads go...

Deepfire "Graphite" Fiber Piston
"Graphite" Fiber Piston
"Graphite" Fiber
"Graphite = Carbon" fiber
"carbon" fiber
???
profit.

unless the name of the material really is "crap"hite, then stay away.

It's deep fire, stay away.

After shipping and everything you may aswell buy a full MASK piston head and cylinder head set..

You also want to stay away from materials that are know to be VERY hard and break down into sharp cutting fibers... especially when around air seal systems.

Is Deep Fire now naming their products properly? Everything they make is pretty much crap so its really fitting.

As for carbon fiber being super hard and cutting... um, its not hard, its durable and light and broken carbon fiber bits don't cut any more than broken MDF boards in my experience. Now ceramic is a whole other story, its super hard and crazy sharp when broken.

I have been racing RC cars made out of carbon. A sharp broken carbon edge cuts like a sheet of paper, except it's hard. Problem is that the dust is extremely abrasive when not broken down properly (graphite is lubricant, carbon fiber is crystaline, so it cuts like glass or ceramic).

Systema already started that with their Energy lineup.

DoctorBadVibez January 19th, 2011 03:32

I saw that, I'm going to inspect an energy gear set, I want to know whether the CF in those gears are actually being used as structural or just as a cosmetic gimmick...

Styrak January 19th, 2011 04:16

It's mostly being used to reduce weight.
