M4 Stock won't come off...

Hey guys,

Ive got an ICS M4A1 with the collapsible stock and everything I read says that you just pull the tab thing DOWN and pull it off the back but when I try that it just gets stuck. Ive tried wiggling it a bit and giving it a bit of force but had no luck. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some sort of method I'm missing?

YouTube - AR15 Collapsable Stock Removal

google is your friend ... :)

I have done that but it cant come all the way off. It just gets stuck right at the end...

The ICS is a pain, anyway instead of just tilting the lever, pull it straight down and turn it 90 degrees so it stays put. Then it'll slide right off. I can snap a pic if my explanation makes no sense.

Wont that break it? That seems like it wont even pull down that far to work...

It won't break just gotta pull down on the spring hard, here is how it looks when it's unlocked

IT WORKED!

Thanks man, I really appreciate it. Couldnt figure it out for the life of me...

but how do i get the black cap off now?

Rooster January 17th, 2011 20:54

Glad to help, makes me feel like I've actually learned something. lol

If I remember correctly there is a screw in the bottom of the tube holding the cap in place.

Ahh yes, I see it! Thanks again.

The handle on the stock as a spring in it. That spring keeps the piston into the hole so that your stock stays locked when you move. When you pull (or push) on the handle the piston comes out of the hole so you can move the stock. If its to tight you can't remove the stock no matter how much you pull because the piston hits a part of the tube. You need to unscrew the spring a little and pull hard on the handle (not just press) so that the piston can clear the obstacle and the stock will slide out. The screw head is on the handle. Hope it makes sense, it's kind of hard to explain without pictures:)
