MP5 SD Question

Since silencers are illegal to import, would the built in silencer front end of a MP5 SD series be illegal to import also?

BurningTaupe October 23rd, 2011 01:07

Do you mean that you're buying an Airsoft gun from the 'States? Bah... you can't import any gun anyway...

iKliiu October 23rd, 2011 09:35

No, I mean converting a MP5A# series to a MP5SD# series. Since the SD# series have a silencer in the front end, would it be illegal to import?

You mean a suppressor
just buy it in country.there are plenty of retailers in canada.
www.airsoftparts.ca
toronto airsoft.
huangs.
and you dont have to go through the hassle of cbsa seizing it.

iKliiu, just get age verified, then more information on this forum will become available to you.

Mock suppressors ARE NOT ILLEGAL! Real ones on the other hand are.

Also note that on the MP5 it's the upper portion that's prohib.

Well, from what I understand the MP5SD5 is a completely different front-end as far as parts go. Every time I hear inquiries about it, people just say "Its easier to buy a whole new gun"

So, on that note. Get verified, buy one from the classifieds.

Easy.

He's talking about ordering a CA MP5SD front section by the sounds of it. Any suppressor might cause you grief with customs -real or not, as they (customs) aren't all "airsoft pro's" so it depends on the individual who inspects it. Get age verified and contact one of the Canadian retailers and see if they will do a custom order for you.

Thanks for the responses. Here's a pic of the part I'm talking about.

This is basically equivalent to this:

Technically, it's just a handguard with a suppressor. Since suppressors are illegal to import, would that make the whole front end illegal?

Did I (and a few others) not just say that mock suppressors aren't illegal? Real ones sure but mock ones no.

iKliiu October 23rd, 2011 13:51

Hmm, the FAQs say otherwise. I'll take your word on this. Thanks for all the advice, I got my answer.

L473ncy October 23rd, 2011 14:18

Yes it actually does say that there but mock suppressors are fine for the most part. Chances are though it will be seized if your package is inspected. Just ask for an appeal or secondary inspection by a firearms expert. The reason why it should be fine is because it's just a metal tube and there's no foam or anything in there. Real suppressor on the other hand is definitely prohib and I believe can land you time in a federal prison (I believe it's a federal offense to have suppressors or something).

CDN_Stalker October 23rd, 2011 19:01

You do need the entire front end (cocking tube, etc.) to change between an SD and an A5, is doable, I did it years ago. Might find a bit of modding to be done, but overall it's aquick change. Plus with the SD front, you can add a 330mm inner barrel giving you a 30fps as well.

IRONSIGHT October 24th, 2011 18:01

A "real" suppressor is any device designed to reduce the report of a firearm. Legal airsoft guns are "unregulated firearms" if I'm not mistaken, so your playing in a really grey area with this subject. Every airsoft suppressor I've ever seen does have foam or baffles of some sort inside them including CA & TM MP5SDs' and they do reduce the sound ,so they aren't really "mock". Getting your hand on one that is already here is a safer bet, or as I said before, price one out with a local retailer.
