Age Verifier Issue

Alright, I made a topic about this previously, but I figure I'll give it another try.

I airsoft occasionally with a group of people in the Sault Ste Marie area. The group I play with has 20+ members (I'm not sure, exactly, I've never counted) and we play regularly on private property owned by one of our members outside of the city limits. Beyond selling guns to one another and buying from overpriced retailers (such as Buyairsoft) we're not able to access the huge advantage which is ASC's private forums.

I joined this site years ago, and beyond being underage myself at the time(2004), but the issue stands. There is not anybody within a reasonable distance for myself (or anybody from our community) to visit to verify us of being of age.

I do not believe that anybody in our community has yet been verified. I would like a moderators opinion or comment on this.

(And before anybody looks up the Age Verifier information and says "TheFranchise"- he has not airsofted in at least 4 years, and its my understanding that he doesn't even live in this city any longer.)

((Also, who should I PM if I want to change my account-name?))

Yeah, How am I supposed to get age verified?? The closest person to me is hundreds of miles away. Why can't this be done over Skype???

Where do you live?

Curo November 26th, 2011 15:17

Last I checked we use KM's not miles, and the reasons relate to quality of video, and crappy feed can distort the picture and it can be very hard to get a accurate picture of either your ID and your face to confirm your age.

not to mention its easier to fake id over a video then it is in person.

What are your locations? giving us those would help greatly.

and the issue of verifiers being far away has been brought up many a time.
your best bet is to find the closest verifier and meet halfway. or
make a trip into the city and meet one there

Though we're less archaic than our southern neighbor, consider this...

I usually express my physical measurements in imperial (6'5", 240 pounds, 38 waist, size 14 shoes etc).

I use both systems for cooking measurements, with a particular emphasis on gallons since I super sized a couple of recipes recently.

At a bar I usually order either a pint or a dram.

I also began to submit travel expenses in furlongs for shits and giggles.

Imperial, although inferior to metric, will stick around forever for some measures because they are sometimes more intuitive or deeply rooted in tradition.

Back to the main subject, you need to meet in person with someone, state your region so we may help you find the closest rep.

According to post 1 last modified on the 22nd of November "thefranchise" is not an option Ritz.

**Edit** I'd recommend the Thunder bay guys at this point

Trevatd November 26th, 2011 19:47

Thunder bay is quite the distance away. On a good day, that's something like a 9 hour trip, on a bad, as high as 13. It isn't like in southern ontario where a 2 hour~ is drive is considered far- or where the major issue is traffic. This is a 700~ km trip around lake superior I'd have to take.

I'll jump through hoops to get AVed, if possible. I'd love to have someone get back to me with something a little better than that.

People who aren't Av-ed get disrespected on these forums and treated like a leper. We're not allowed to buy or sell. It is obnoxious that I cannot get some kind of workaround.

And thanks, Zeon, for actually reading my post. RITZ, it is my understanding that the franchise sold his guns about... 3-4 years ago, and I believe he moved away. Perhaps next time you can actually read my introduction post.

I also love how everybody jumped to help the other guy- when I clearly stated my problem and nobody responded to me for days.

-----------

I've done due dilligance on this topic. I also messaged "Redneck" who states that he travels to the Sault Area. Another negative.

http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthr...?t=4947&page=9 The last post states that he doesn't AV anymore and his profile says that he hasn't airsofted "In years"

Then I guess you are up shit creek.

If it was me, I'd take the drive. I'm sure where you live is lacking in other amenities also that have folks traveling out of town too. But maybe I'm wrong and an ASC age verifier is the only thing that burg is missing.

How about this, organize a game, put out the invite to a few folks who are age verifiers in outside your area and tell them your group will bring him out for the day; pay for his fuel and meals, have him at a game so he can see you're not a bunch of twats and then he'll feel comfortable AV'ing the folks in the group who are over 18.

Janus November 27th, 2011 01:47

No, this is basically bullshit. I refuse to believe that the only option is "up shit creek."

Sadly, I won't be going home this year for Christmas (I'm from Sault Ste. Marie) so I won't be able to do it, but there HAS to be someone in that region that is trustworthy enough to get as a verifier.

Thunder Bay is NOT an option. That drive is 600km+ away from Goulais. I wouldn't ask anyone to do it.

I'm sure something can be worked out with a player local to SSM.

R.I.T.Z November 27th, 2011 02:19

I believe there was someone in northbay... which is slightly closer.

I go by what lists are available. The mods are usually pretty good about removing old stats in important thread so i'm surprised the franchise is still there if your information is correct.

Also threads get buried and forgotten quite quickly, unless somebody is looking specifically for something some threads can go unanswered for weeks and months at a time. the reason why we all jumped to help the other guy out is he is the most recent poster.

HAH no.... those threads are very old. I was an AVer for over a year before the list was updated to put me in it, and finially get the old AVer for my region who had not been active on the site for many years off of it.

1. For a number of reasons, AVs are to be done in person only. There's no exception to this, sorry;

2. The network of verifiers is based on trust: to make someone a verifier, we have to know/trust them, or have people we trust vouch for them. So it's not as simple as just assigning a verifier;

3. Not sure how the nearest verifier is 13 hours away; that's about what it would take me to get to SSM from Montreal?

The suggestion of getting a verifier to come out to your events is probably the best one, unless you all wanna take a road trip to one of the major events or something, then you wouldn't be driving out just for the AV.

I realize the situation sucks for people out in remote areas, unfortunately the site and the AV system is run entirely by volunteers.
