Silicone Oil
Just bought a Dan Wesson 6 inch airsoft revolver. The manual says " put a few
drops of silicone oil on one of the bbs loaded into the cartridge" but no mention of why, how often, or any other use of silicone oil for maintenance. Is this necessary and and where else to apply silicone oil? Thanks! Also, do I use pell gun oil on the CO2 cartridge tip as it is used on pellet guns? |
I don't have the energy to run through proper gun maintenance, but I will tell you now don't put silicone oil directly on your bb's lol. Don't even think about such a ridiculous thing.

I presume oiling the bb before it is fired will lube the barrel instead of running a swab thru it ( no hop-up on the DW).
So , just to clarify: 1. Occasionally lube the barrel with silicone oil? 2. Use pellgun oil on the tip of the CO2 cartridge as done on steel bb guns and airguns? |

if you want to lube your barrel, remove the inner barrel from the hop unit and swab it down with silicone oil. |

but there is no hop-up on the gun....

lol.
Oh shit its a Dan Wesson! I facepalm myself. Should've read it more carefully. Sorry OP. Yes. it is mainly to put a bit of lubrication down the barrel. But as I said, just swap the barrel down with silicone and your good to go. Even if there is no hop up, you can still slightly distort how the BB exits the barrel or cartridge with a slippery BB. |
Another reason to not directly oil your BB's and feed them through your gun is simply; thinking about real firearms or even paintball guns, firing with water or excess oil in the barrel puts too much pressure on the internals (this applies more towards gas guns, not so much AEG's). You will actually do more harm than good in this sense and more often than not you will just jam BB's and/or damage some of the internals by doing this.
To reiterate what 'e-luder' stated previously, the best way to properly oil your airsoft gun is to simply take it apart and gain easy access to the parts that need lubrication. |
Thanks everyone- puzzled why ASG would suggest silicone on bb. I suppose they instruct the same for all their new line of airsoft.
Nobody mentioned if using pellgun oil on CO2 cartridge ok for airsoft pistols so I will assume silicone oil not to be used for that. |
