AEG and weather questions
 

I live in BC and was wondering a few basic weather questions.

1-can I play with my AEG in the rain? Heavy, Light, Biblical Magnictude (build an ark)? When should I stop running from the enemy and run from the rain? I have a TM M1A1 thompson.

What damage will it do?
Rusting issues on any parts that cannot be towel dried?
Is there a way to rain proof an AEG?

2-Besides battery issues what about snow/cold? What temp do you pack it in at? -5, -40, my lips just fell off?

are there any other weather issues I should be aware of?

I've played in Rain, sleet, snow, hail, terrential downpour, drizzle, fog etc, and never with ANY troubles, just make sure you give'er a good wipedown afterward and you should be okay.

I've gone through mud, rain, hail, snow, etc. with my CA MP5, TM AK47, TM G36C, TM P90... all came out fine.

Just make sure you dry the metal parts with a towel or something so they don't rust.

I've played in rain a few times, you have to make sure you take of the foregrip of MP5's after each game. I've found (all but the RAS) have a mean tendancy to collect water inside. It's good practice to empty it out.

Also, make sure to wipe down any Magazines.. I've seen several rust like crazy.

in all honesty the only real damage your gun will sustain is a blown motor, easily purchased and replaced... Although I've never seen it happen, the chance exists if you fall off the ark INTO the flood.

I've seen a guy drop a MP5 right into a marsh. It fired full auto underwater. He picked it up and it was good to go.

After each game in the rain I take the aug apart and towel it off. No big deal.

Since no one has addressed your temp. concerns. It really depends on your battery size. The colder the weather, the faster it drains the juice.

Mind you if you get into the colder temperatures, -10 and below, you can suffer a broken mech box. We (BCAC) had a bootcamp last winter that resulted in a few breaking.
As far as rust goes, use a small spritz of silicone oil on any steel bits (after it's dried) and it'll stop it, wipe off the excess.
Otherwise like everyone else has stated, these things are pretty resilient.

Were these upgraded*?

A side note that has nothing to do with airsoft. When using compound bows in sub zero temp. it is always best to reduce the draw weight by 10-15 pounds to prevent strain on the limbs.

*It might be a good idea in cold weather to use chopped springs or downgrade. You might loose a few fps, but it would be better then spending 100 on a new mechbox. :)

V2 mechboxes are prone to 'sploding in teh cold weather ,so it really varies depending on your AEG, V3 mechboxes and up seem to like th cold weather fine.

I've played in the rain a few times as well, and some of it pretty heavy bursts. My MP5 has lasted no problem, not a patch of rust or corrision (or even discolouration of metal parts at all, even though my gun sat in it's case for a few days after. Exact same with my CA M24, nada!!!)

Apoc's M-16 series though (SR-16, M733 and G&P SPR), and his C-mags, have either rusted or gotten what looks like white salt stains on a number of metal parts. Just put a light coat of oil on your parts beforehand just in case and you should be ok if you wipe down well after the rain..
