Make yourself an approximation of the Zastava M76.

would svd mags work in an ak or are they different?

Strelok February 12th, 2013 18:04

Completely different. You can buy short AK mags but they're often highcaps.

modify a mid cap to run as a shorty possibly

You can also give a go at the Iraqi Tabuk Sniper:

Uses standard short 7.62x39 magazines (which a fortunately easy to come by). A Real Sword full-stock Type 56 would be a great place to start. The big job would be getting your hands on a wood AK stock and hollowing it out, just like the Iraqis did with standard AK47 stocks. Add a RPK barrel, SVD flash hider, and an optic on a side clamp mount and you're basically there, minus the three-holed hand guard.

Good luck!

Debrief and Strelok's ideas are similar seeing as the Tabuk was based off of the Zastava M76. I think a guy on the Airsoft Ohio forums did a good one with a CYMA as the base (Don't quote me on that) and real Yugoslavian parts.
Good luck!

Incorrect, the Tabuk was based off the Zastava M72, which is a 7.62x39 RPK derivative. The Tabuk is essentially a bipod-less RPK with an optic and an SVD-esque hollowed out M72 stock.

@ OP, seeing as you already have a Real Sword 56-2 (from your sig), your best bet would be to build it off what you already have. As far as I know there were few/no purpose-built military DMR variants of the AK-74 produced.

ok so my biggest problem is finding away to shorten the mags to this size i have 2 RS high caps i wana turn into low caps for this gun any suggestions on how to make them the size of a svd mag?

Personally, I think a modified RPK would be the way to go. Depending on which one you get, you can swap out the club-foot stock for a standard AK-47/AKM stock. Then you could add a PSO-1, or a side rail mounted western scope of any kind. Then just buy a short 20 round type mag, and either keep or bin the bipod. When choosing an RPK, don't get the Echo1 or Cyma versions, the pot metal WILL break. I've owned 3 Cyma/Echo1's and they didn't last.

The universal solution has been to just use Marui clone shotgun shells. Granted, they only hold 30 per 'magazine' but its something. They're small and they're easy to work with.
