Are all gears specific to their gearbox type?
It was mentioned to me, by a gun doctor, that the sector gear of the gearbox doesn't matter, and that sector gears from version 2/3/6/7 etc can be used in any gearbox. I'm assuming it's the spur and bevel gear that do matter and are different based on the gearbox type. He allegedly placed a modify gear inside in place of my Guarder gear. I don't believe modify makes V7 gears.
Can anyone verify if this is true? Meaning, for example, that if I were to purchase a random V2 sector gear, it would work in a TM Version 7 M14 gearbox? Or do I have gears mixed up and things backwards? Or is this totally wrong? Thank you for the input :) |
Good info too know.
I have a M14 EBR, so Id like too know this too. |
given the gear ratio be correct, yes.

NO.
TM M14 (V7) use a specific gear set. V2/3/6 all share the same gears. V4 (PSG-1) and V2.5 (CA SR-25) use it's own too. V1 (TM FAMAS) also use specific stuff. In an M14, you need to install the correct gears, yes. It can use a standard bevel, but the sector and spur are different IIRC. |
Best to use the gearset assigned for a given mechbox type. None of this 3 different brands of gears BS.

Definitely going to crack this gearbox open to check it out. Thank you to everyone for the input. It's good to double check these things. Does anyone know if Modify actually makes V7 gears?

Tm v6 use spacial gears the axle spacing is different unless you do some dark rituals and sacrifice a goat.. All other v6 use v2/3 gears

You might be confused with the bevel gear bushing that can be installed in 2 positions, depending if the mechbox is a P90 one or Thomson one. Both guns use V2/3 gears. |
Why are we talking about type 6 gearbox when the thread is about type 7.
TM is pure proprietary, as pesto said, if yours is a G&G you should be able to use 2/3 gears. HOWEVER, you may experience meshing problems if you are mis and matching gears, EVEN IF they are the same ratios |
