Pistol Front Sight Glue
 

Botched a re-attach of one of my pistol front sights. I was going to keep it there permenantly with some RC tire glue, but it solidified before I could get it all the way into position. I've had it soaking all day in nail polisher remover with little effect. My only remaining options are to use actual acetone or boiling water. Does anyone know if dipping the front of the pistol slide (metal, aftermarket) would damage it at all? As far as I can tell, everything in the front of the slide is metal, so I don't think it'll be a problem?

Call a hobby store. I believe there is a debonder available that should help. Good luck.

Trying boiling first. That what I do to unglue worn tires from rims and reuse the rims.

If it does not work, there is "Unflash" that is sold in hobbyshops. It does exactly what it says (since tire glue is usually refered as "Flash glue")

For something small like that I'd have used epoxy resin as its easily made in small amounts and you have some play with it before it sets.

For paint on metal/ some plastics I use brake fluid in a plastic cup that could remove the glue after leaving it for a while, only issue is it softens plastics for a while afterwards but isn't flammable or particularly toxic.

Why dont you just use a punch and a gentle tap with a hammer?
Sometimes I have to superglue pistol sights that have a lot of play in them. Often the superglue will harden before I can get it centered. A punch and very gentle tap is often more than enough to break the bond between the glue and the site.

Strangely enough, the glue then acts as a filler to shim up the gap that was present between the sight and the slide too.

CA will burn off...either with a lighter or a propane torch. soften it up and then tap it out

Thanks, guys. I got it off with the debonding stuff from the hobby store. Bad news: it completly melted my fibre optic sight, but I knew it was going to do that going in. The housing, however, is intact. Now I need to source a replacement rod.
