Modification on a JG AUG A2 (56k beware!)

Hi there folks,

I would like to share with you, some modification i've done on a JG/Aftermath AUG A2 AEG. Here goes my story:

I have 2 favourite models of the Steyr AUG: the old-school A1 and the younger shorter barreled (16') A3, as depicted below:

images taken from the internet, for reference purposes.

But, after several months waiting*, i got this:

First thing that crossed my mind was: "holy ****! this **** is ugly as ****!" The toyish appearance was bad, but that upper receiver was the turn down for me.

Stubborn as i am, i started thinking on a solution to make it more appealing to me.

So the surgery began:

There was a sliding window rail laying around from the past house reform, and a 10 inch rail i bought dirt cheap from Dealextreme, putting them togheter, i had a glimpse of what i really wanted:

And what a pleasant coincidence! those parts had very close dimensions!

And a look inside the window rail:

Comparing with photos gathered from all over the interwebs, the 10 inch rail seemed to have a very close Length to the real one, and would give me a fair space to mount whatever i wanted up there.

taking some measuring, i started marking the piece for the cutting process:

Not forgetting a offset rail for the flashlight:

and "Adieu!" unholy abomination

After some cutting and bending, the project started to take shape

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...ps50c89178.jpg

Next step was to build a structure that could support all the accesories to it, without falling apart

Starting by drilling some holes to screw in two supports:
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...ps5d1f5e51.jpg
then
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...pscbe2fa50.jpg

now the trial, assemble everything and see what happens when shaking the structure with a red dot in it:

Stood still and passed with flying collors!

Just to be sure, WELDING TIME!

After sanding down the excesses

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...ps74fe75c5.jpg

With some primer on

Paint it black!
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...ps248a6e42.jpg
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...ps6d087ee7.jpg

Then, installing a shorter barrel and a pair of MBUS:

CoD View :p
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...ps13e30973.jpg

Ok, done that, but there was something else that bothered me still: Its toyish black color, that body have to receive some paint!

I have a AOR1 Loadout, why not have a AOR1 AUG? This is airsoft after all

after some days of painting, sanding, airbrushing, stencils, and a sealant matte varnish:

So there it is! It may not look EXACTLY like the real steel, but surely gave a nicer look. What you guys think?

By the way, I found out that the original flash hider was plastic and very flimsy, so i bought a new one, which gave my AUG a more aggressive look.

*I live in Brazil, import process takes nearly a year due to the good ol' bureaucracy...

Thanks, i left this topic as a reference to whoever want to mod one's own AUG.

I still wonder why the chinese didn't come up with this design...would be much more popular, than the fugly current railed AUGs.

So if I'm understanding correctly, you ordered an A2 and you were surprised when an A2 showed up? Or you just made it sound like that...

Oh, sorry about that. I omitted the part that UNCompany mistook my order and sent me the A2, instead of the A1.

@Spike, i have some ideas to share, for a start, i would suggest you a APS AUG, they have a lower body that is almost identical to this one, also a XM177 flash hider, and a resin shim for the magwell, so that could take M4 Mags, i think the M4 mag catch can fit, but a close call on the V3 gearbox if im not wrong.

If you really want it, do it. Having your dream AEG in hands, can even improve your game.
