9.6v battery reads 11.4 on voltmeter

Hey ASC, I just charged my battery to a full charge since I used it. And after my charge I hooked it up to my voltmeter and set it to 20v (no clue what it means, it said to set it to that in the manual, maybe I should have bought it with some knowledge lol), but is that normal or am I over reacting?

Thanks!

"9.6v" is the mean operating voltage.
A 9.6v battery when full is actually around 11-12v

Same with LiPo; an 11.1v battery actually runs at 12.6v when full.

Ah. Alright. Thanks a lot!

A 9.6v nimh battery is made up of 8 x 1.2v nimh cells. 1.2v is the "nominal" voltage of each cell and when fully charged they are typically around 1.4v. Therefore, 8 x 1.4v = 11.2v
