Advice on Upgrading VFC HK-416D
 

Hello all,

I very recently purchased my first airsoft rifle, I opted for the VFC HK-416D. The thing is incredible, and I'm incredibly happy with the product despite the high price. That being said, I'm rather new to airsoft and was looking to gain some insight in regards to possible upgrades. What would be the best all round upgrades I could give the gun? Especially if I am interested in increased reliability, and range. I apologize in advance if this post is accompanied by any traces of ignorance, I'm certainly still learning.

So reliability do not open the gearbox, doing many internal mods will need more maintenance. So keep the gun stock and rebuild when something goes wrong especially since your new just keep it simple. As per range check out some different inner barrels and possibly buckings I never seem to have any luck with buckings but I just started using Prometheus 6.03 inner barrels and they are working great for my VFC. Very easy first mod doesn't take much experience. Any who just my thoughts good luck!!

If you're complaining about up front cost, shoot it till it breaks. Then talk upgrades.

From experience I did very minimal work on my VFC guns.

Just installed a basic mosfet [Good MOSFET not a crap one] to protect the triggers from burning up and those triggers for some reason burn up quicker compared to other AEGs I've owned.

Another would be replacing the piston as the thing will shatter on you. Its best just to replace that as soon as possible because its not going to last you many games.

Everything else in the gearbox just leave it stocked. Make sure you have good air seal and the gearbox is shimmed right you should be good for reliability for a while.

As for performance R-Hop that thing and you should be good to go :)
Add in a prommy barrel if you have the money and you have a very competitive gun.

Would it not be better to upgrade to prevent it breaking? I didn't intend to come off as complaining, I was merely stating I believed it was rather expensive.

Brilliant, thanks! I presume most of these upgrades should be done by a gun doc, as opposed to myself, aided with YouTube videos?

You got a good gun. Unless you are going to use 11.1v battery you do not need a mosfet unit in it.

If the fps is too high, you can try to put in a weaker spring.

But honestly, you got a high end gun, you should not need any internal upgrades. Spend your money on external parts, like light, grip, scope, strap, extra mags. VFC does not break that easily and can last a good amount of time.

The newer VFC416s already have mosfets inside of them.

What is inside your 416 depends on when and where you bought it.
2012-2014 should have a MOSFET installed, piston and tappet plate replaced at some point.
2015 is good to go
2016 should have a MOSFET installed and piston replaced.

They could all benefit from a Neo magnet motor. Barrel and hop up are good enough that you won't really benefit much from "upgrades" such as an economy barrel upgrade or generic hop up rubber. It will benefit from a Prometheus or PDI barrel paired with a R Hop.

Thanks man! That's certainly how I was thinking, although it seemed the general opinion on all guns was if you don't spend around $2000, your gun will need at least something upgrading, be it external or internal.

I purchased the gun around two weeks ago, from Gear Up Airsoft. I'm not sure exactly how to deduce the year of the gun, however I am aware it's the version with the HK style stock, and grip. I know the earlier VFC 416's lacked those specific parts, and therefore looked far more like M4's. The guys from where I bought the gun told me I should eventually add MOSFET, especially because I run 11.1 LiPo batteries. Quick question for you, I've heard that firing your gun on full auto as opposed to bursting it (when the fire selector is on full auto) is very bad for your gear box, is this true? Thanks! Really appreciate the help.

Just like every other airsoft gun ever, 1st, best, and cheapest upgrade is the hop rubber.
