MP5-J

Hows this for a starting off AEG?
If not, I want a 300+ FPS Rifle with Semi-auto selectable, metal gear box, but not extremly expensive. Hows this do?
Only thing i would need to upgrade would be a new Toko Marui MP5 Tightbore barrel eh?

Do some reading about Cyma guns, then decide if you want to waste your money.

No, get a TM at the bear minimum, Cyma just doesnt cut it.

Bryce132 June 20th, 2006 21:21

Alright, I was thinking that.

The Saint June 20th, 2006 21:36

Well, to be honest:

Only TM rifle that'll shoot over 300 stock is the M14. The more common brands whose guns will shoot over 300 stock are Classic Army and Star (plus a few other less common), who don't offer guns anywhere near Cyma.

with Semi-auto selectable
That's a give on any real AEG.

metal gear box
See above (with the exception of Star and their polycarb boxes).

You get what you've paid for is as true with airsoft as anything else if not more so. For a solid AEG, the cheapest you're looking at around $350 (TM's MP5K) or UTG if you really want to push it. Other than the AIM M4A1 and that Cyma you linked, you're not going to get a 300fps+ AEG for under $499.

I'd play with the gun first before thinking about changing anything inside.

First-

I was talking to Sam about these, and several other folks. These are fairly new, and are attracting quite a bit of attention overseas (much less lemon-rate then UTG, higher velocity, et cetera). I can also say Sam isn't lying about the velocity.

Guys,
Please, give this the benefit of the doubt. None of you have seen this one yet, it was only released a few months ago in America, and about a year ago overseas.

Bryce,

I advise you go to www.arniesairsoft.co.uk to look up info on it. Many folks there have it and love it, a few of them even have the Marui counterpart to compare it to (one of them, Gunlady, has the CYMA AK and MP5 and the Marui counterparts to both of them. For the AK one, she's been getting better range with the CYMA, not sure about the MP5).

Marui will always be better, but at least give it the benefit of the doubt.

Before you make your final decision,

I suggest you email Sam, the owner of BC Airsoft. He's quite good and has got great service. He'll give you his thoughts on the guns.

I can't see them being worse than UTG and it worked well.

Bob the Angry Potato June 20th, 2006 21:58

BTW,
He's 16.

Come on, Grey...

CYMA has released a few, metal gearbox AEG's that have received quite the nod for entry level packages.

And yes, they all do shoot 300+ FPS w/.20 bb's out of the box.

Do you get what you pay for? Yes, absolutely. Except, in the past year or so, it seems one is getting just a little more for what their paying;)

Here's some links for YOUR reading on the past CYMA releases. No, it's not up to par with TM, CA, and/or ICS - but...it's a very decent starting platform and at the $250 CAD range for the GUN, Battery, Charger, Hi-Cap mag, etc...it can't be beat.

And like the other posters already said, there is plenty more info available at Arnies. A couple retailers (gunneraisoft in HK for one) took the CYMA inside out and brought the camera with them - lots of internal pics, etc. etc.

Edit for SP

Alright, thanks for the info guys. I am currently making an account on that website, and doing more reserach upon which AEG I truley want.
I have it Narrowed down to:
UTG
TM MP5
Or the CYMA

aZn_triXta07 June 20th, 2006 23:19

Hold up on the CYMA until next week, mine should be arriving and I'll write up my own review about it.

EDIT- I've owned a TM MP5-SD5 before so I am quite interested as the majority of reviews have said this is the best 1:1 TM Clone currently. This one looks real promising with full metal gearbox, full metal front, and 300+fps.

Russianboy June 20th, 2006 23:34

Get the TM man. Thats all I have to say.

Well, at the age of 13, he certainly has a lot of access to a lot of AEG's to compare with.

TM, and do some research about the age requirements. It will save you money and grief.
