Constructing a Allied radio...

Hey all.

230 am, nothing better to think about.

I'm going to try to construct a faux radio unit out of a handheld FRS or the quivilant. Now, all i would need to do is figure out how to mount it in the handheld reciever / transmitter... I dont really think it would be hard... any input?

I would need an allied radio bag, which i've seen at the local surplus place.

I could stuff anything in there, as WW2 radios are a bitch as far as price goes, and im just looking for a cheap repro, nothing huge and fancy... just get the job done, and look ww2ish doing it.

Suggestions?

I've seen this done successfully, but it used a regular FRS unit, a headset and a Vietnam era reciever. The FRS unit is located out of site (in your case it would be the radio bag and the headset is disassembled and placed in the Vietnam era reciever. It looked pretty good and operated rather well too.

I beleive the folks at In Country know what I'm talking about. George from Winterpeg did it, was cool to see him using it with-in his squad.

I was the one who made the handset for george I took a Push to talk mic that looked like what a trucker uses but made for FRS and took an old phone handset and rigged it into there painted it green and then all you have to do is plug the hand set into your FRS and your good to go make a box and make it heavy and put the FRS in there and it looks like you have an old style radio.

You could try using one of these: http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/7830/
and painting, etc it, to get the right effect, if you can find one that will attach properly to a radio...
