Dremels and Front Sights
 

Righty-o folks.

The screw holding my front sight post on my G&P M4 is stripped totally, and i need that front sight of by 6pm EST. My question, would a dremel (an older one mind you) cut through the metal of the front sight post?

that all depends on the cutting wheel you use if you are using one of those fiber reinforced ones There should be no issues.

I'm not sure what wheel is there.... Its a Robinson cutting wheel, or something to that effect. This dremel looks like something of galactica... not hi-tech at all really.

[COLOR=Black]Ive used my dremel to cut through metal pipes before, so cutting a screw shouldnt be much of the problem. However like Tex said it mainly all depends on the cutting wheel.
Something like this can be used.
If all else fails, go and find yourself an Alien, they have very corrosive spit which can go through just about nething

yeah, it LOOKS like that disk, well here is hoping i dont end the day with a new hole in my throat from a broken cutting wheel.

those cutting wheels break easy and love to hit the users in the face, eye/face/neck protection always good idea

which is why it will be spinning on a horizontal axis when compared to my position. With eye protection and what not.

Well two cutting disks a lot of hammering and scratches later... it came off.

For the recorf G&P Triangle sights are tough little bitches.

why did you want it off?

I was installing a RIS System (freefloat), which needed the sight to be removed for install... I now have a PRI style slight on there.

shoulda used a hacksaw, less chance of a serious episode of 2nd windpipeism

alot of those disc break because you have them rotating too fast! A cutting disc doesn't need to be going a kagillion miles an hour to cut through metal. Best for the cutting discs on Dremels is just under the mid range speeds. Take time and let the wheel do the work, don't try pushing it through.


A face sheild never hurts either.
