Manager and staff of First Factory/Laylax arrested

Just saw this go up on Arnies, figured I'd post it up here for all to see.

""Paul from ClassicAirsoftGuns has mailed in some news from Japan, which relates to recent Police action in Japan in relation to Airsoft. Whilst there's nothing official posted anywhere as the information was confirmed by a second source you can pretty much take his word for it being true:

Friday August 4th the Manager and staff of First Factory/Laylax were arrested during the night for selling high power airsoft guns after the .98j joule law went into effect August 1st. They face several months in jail and fines of 1 million yen per infraction. The president was unavailable for interview, but it is assumed he will take responsiblility for the acts by paying the fines and supporting his staff. It is also very probable he will be taken to jail as a result of his knowledge and lack of action. The raid went further as to contact sales recipients of highpowered guns as of August 1st. 9 people were contacted, cited, fined, and given criminal records. One such person was a government official who will now be asked to resign his position after reiceiving his criminal record. The manager was shown being taken to prison while being contrasted by his negative views of highpowered guns, not 9 months before.

This new law affects everyone from part makers to gun manufacturers, all makers including WA and TM. The standardized testing the government is using is .98j with .2g BBs at a temperature of 35deg C. The previous industry standard test was at 20c. This has all conventional gas makers concerned as their guns cannot pass at 35deg C. This will affect the market and industry dramatically and possibly give HK the toe hold it needs to truly dominate the market.

This operation was concocted in an attempt to catch Digicon, the makers of airguns used in 98% of the crimes commited in Japan. However, the operation has now extended to less serious infractions in an attempt to make an example to smaller custom shops working under the radar. Other establishments, rumored by law enforcement and industry officials, to fall in the industry are the upper echelon of ASGK, Echiogoya, Digicon, and some smaller custom shops.

Hey if your gonna break the rules then to hell with ya.

Digicon is criminals guns of choice in japan? Oh that made my day.

WOW! thats all I can say....

CDN_Stalker August 8th, 2006 19:45

Guess I better stock up on Laylax 150SP springs then just in case.

DragonHawk August 8th, 2006 19:54

This is sort of surprising. 0.98 J translates into what, roughly? 325 fps for 0.2 g BBs? Not very high at all.

SolidifiedPenguin August 8th, 2006 20:28

Looks like CA and the other non Japanese companies are gonna get some more powerful stock guns.

trufret August 8th, 2006 20:47

unless they bump these guns up to insane speeds like 1000fps who the hell is going to let themself get robbed by what they know is an airsoft gun.

"The raid went further as to contact sales recipients of highpowered guns as of August 1st. 9 people were contacted, cited, fined, and given criminal records."

Ahh, the true purpose of registries. How quaint.

BTW trufret if someone points an airsoft/replice firearm at you, it's a threat to your life. If you ran over someone trying to carjack you with airsoft, and I was on the jury, I'd vote to acquit you.

over here where it could very possibly be a real gun maybe but from what I understand in japan real guns in the hands of civilians is a very rare thing. I'd always assume it was airsoft

Criminals have guns...

Luckyorwhat August 8th, 2006 22:32

"Criminals have guns..."

Shhhhh! How dare you imply that criminals would break the law. Don't you listen to ANYTHING gun control advocates tell you?

The gas gun companies are worried? My KSC G19 stock shoots around 320fps in 30 degree weather on PROPANE, they do the testing with hfc134 at most as thats what the Japanese guns are designed for, aernt they?

They're talking specifically about Digicon guns. Personally, I have seen and shot a NBB Digicon 10" Desert Eagle that fired almost 500 FPS on duster with minor DIY modifications. Add a few basic mods like highflow valve, tightbore, and use Green Gas and you could hit 700 fps quite easily, I imagine.

The NEW japanese regs that came into effect this month state that all testing is to be done at 20 degrees, which will significantly lower blowback. It's going to mean major modifications to the producers, who will now have to design guns that will work well at lower temperatures and lower velocities. Who knows, maybe this will lead to a modernization of gas guns that can run at low (winter?) temperatures?

ILLusion August 9th, 2006 13:38

The above article states that 20 degrees is the previous testing standard, whereas the current one is 35 degrees... which doesn't bode well for gas gun manufacturers or consumers.
