TT MAV Q's
Hey Guys!
A few questions for you TT MAV enthusiasts! 1. Should I get the 1 Piece? I like the look of it better, along with being able to have more "real estate". 2. I have read the X-Harness is a good investment, is this true? 3. I will be buying a TM M14 SOCOM, so I need to get some ammo pouches. Will the .308 double mag pouches fit the bill? 4. I will need probably two utility pouches for ammo, speed loaders, multi-tool, etc. What should I buy for that? 5. Will their Multicam pattern look the same with Crye Multicam? 6. Is their anywhere in the U.S. (Online retailer) that would be cheaper than buying directly from www.tacticaltailor.com ? 7. Does the Hydration Carrier attach securely to the X-Harness? Or do you need to have another point where it can be hooked up to? Thanks, -Blink |
Hey Blink, I do not have the MAV myself but base on my other rigs I can try and help answer your questions.
1- Unless you really often find yourself in a situation where you have to remove your rig, I would stay with the 1 peice. Those front buckles tend to find the rocks when you're lying prone and break. 2- Straps will always dig into your shoulder under loads. A wider and padded harness will take the bite out of it. 3- The TT 7.62(.308) mag pouch is design to hold two 20 rounds 7.62mm mags which is what the M14 uses. 4- Any utility pouch that uses a zipper is great to hold loose things like tools and bbs. TT has one called the Accessory Pouch 1V. 5- It's the same material as Crye Multicam 6- http://www.entrygear.com/list.asp?li...cat=127&mfg=78 It's one of the retailers that I buy from. 7- Looks like it will be short. The TT hydration pouch uses 4 Malice clips. You'll only be able to attach the top pair. You still can attach it but it'll jump around once you start running. Cheers and how's the other ASC doing? I should drop by soon. |
I've the 2 piece and love it. I don't have issues with the buckles breaking as I don't crawl around or go prone often. However with the magazine pouches being full the buckles are spaced from the ground far enough in most cases that it shouldn't be an issue.
I find it's easier to put on, take off and run around with. I got mine with the MAV X-harness and I would recommend it also. You don't really lose any space having the 2 piece. |
I have the 1 piece and I love it. The way I have mine set up is for my M14 and my Socom 16, which will probbably be very similar to one you are thinking of making
1 MAV Vest (of course) 1 X Harness 1 MAV Bib (kept empty) 1 Large Utility Pouch (on the X Harness for my propane bottle) 1 Multi-Purpose Pouch 1 AK/M16 Mag Pouch 6 7.62/.308 Single Mag Pouches http://www.davesarmysurplus.com/ Mod Hydration Carrier will fit on the X Harness if you decide to build it like I did, you will have all your mags and whatever you need to bring |
I wear a two piece TT MAV. Love it, really good gear if your a large person, adjust really good to all body sizes. If you do end up with a two piece and you find it doesn't give you enuff space, TT makes an adaptor that converts the two into a one.

Wow thanks for the quick replies guys!
I was thinking of getting all MC... but since I may have to use Desert MARAPAT for OP's I might as well get all the gear in Tan so that I can use it with multiple loadouts! Thanks again you really really helped me in a spot I know nothing about! -Blink |
