Western Union Online Money Transfer

I am planning on using this system to send some $ to someone I know (and trust) overseas.

Anyone aware of any reason I should avoid this system?

Thanks

LD

I think you bank can wire it directly to a bank over there, seems a little more secure.

but depending on the bank there can be large fees attached, I'm with TD and when I inquired about it they told me theres a $60 fee. No idea what Western Unions fees are like through.

I think Western Union charges about $28 to wire money around.

28 bucks a use, that about sums it up for me.

Email money transfers and paypal are the way to go nowadays.

EMT is only for Canad I believe. And paypal takes too many days to actually get money out, even longer for oversea bank accounts.

Western Union, other than the fees, there's nothing wrong with the system itself. The only bad rep they get is that it's the favourite payment methods by Nigerian scammers. If you want to be extra safe, go with bank money wire for the extra $40.

Yes, unless you have a credit card attached to your Paypal account, then it's almost instant. I don't have a credit card, tried putting money into my Paypal account from my bank account, took about 5 business days for the money to show up in Paypal. (since I was paying for something, I just got the wife to pay for it on her account, then transferred the money from my Paypal to hers, she got it within a few hours, then SHE had to wait 5 business day to deposit the money into her bank account!) Never again will I use Paypal!!!!!!

Seconded.

I just used it to buy stuff from the Ukraine. Fast, but you pay out the ass in the transaction fees.
