Armour (Feasable Or Not)
Im looking for sum body armour, as light as possible made of metal.
something that looks like this (Just the Chestplate and Pauldrons) (Yes i know its not practical, its for aestethics) http://www.battlefield40k.com/galler...e.php?i=56&c=4 http://uk.games-workshop.com/downloa...es/ig1-800.jpg Is there anyone interested in making one? and for how much? also, any suggestions for type of metal, materials etc etc. it needs to be light enough to be carried, but thick enough that it wont bend or break |
if it's just for looks make it out of fibreglass, it will be WAY easier
|
Not difficult
Any competant armourer should be able to make this for you.
Stainless steel would be the way to go for the attributes you want, 18Ga stainless would be quite rigid. Cost... likely around $400-600.00 for something that looks like it is supposed to fit a human. Check this guy... he can do it... I have seen some of his work he has done stuff like this.. www.thak.ca |
Wow, warhammer is popping up all over the boards this week. If you're going to go through all the trouble have Imperial Guard armour made, complete the look and model yourself an airsoft lasgun as well =).
|
yea, i was thinking that, but an autogun is much cooler ;p (and easier to mod)
|
Whoever made that model has little talent as a modeler and texture artist.
Either that or it's his first model and in that case I wish him luck :P Out of context but I felt like sharing anyways. |
Metal is too heavy and too high maintenence for what you want. You'll want to look at fibreglass or a combination of plastics. For the funky curves and things on a human body, you might want to look into making a vacuform table.
If you're looking for supplies and tutorials and such for making plastic armour, Google is rotten with Star Wars and Aliens fansites that explain, in great detail, how to vacuform plastic armour. |
Cassius: the game the model was made for isnt a very graphically intense game. so that could be why it looks so shoddy.
none the less, that Thak site is really interesting! goin to the bookmark list |
