The SL-9 barrel is the closest I can imagine being the closest.

Wouldn't it make more sense to use a G36 as a sniper platform with a bipod?

Yes, but some people are...well...odd...

You should be able to use any extended barrel that'll screw into a negative 14mm threading to create that ugly piece of mistake. I think that might be a SOCOM silencer.

i want to be able to change it to an assult rifle or a sniper rifle pluse o dont have the g36 i have a g36c

The Saint March 3rd, 2007 21:11

You might want to consider saving up and just buying G36 full length front end instead of this, because it'll be exactly the same amount of trouble switching between the sniper and assault config. After all, you'll need to completely remove the front end to switch inner barrel, unless you're going to use your stock inner barrel with the sniper config, which obviously wouldn't give you any sort of sniper-ish performance.

Actually, considering that you've got a G36C as it is, simplying adding a longer inner barrel actually won't do much in terms of performance improvement, since you've got a ported cylinder (unless you've upgraded it).

swatt13 March 3rd, 2007 21:13

it would be kinda redundant. you could only have a barrel as long as your g36c. then when you put your "sniper barrel" on, youd still only have a g36c inner barrel, the extra long barrel would be for looks... ergo useless; unless you took the time to take down your 36 and replace the inner barrel, but then with that long of a barrel i would prolly think youd need a bore up cylinder.

in truth... itd be a waste of your time, and it would be a very akward gun, but by all means give it a try see what you think.

Barrett_M107 March 3rd, 2007 21:39

I did basically what you've got.

Get the G36 barrel extension from WGC, they have 3 styles.
They have a screw on/off end so you can replace it with a silencer.

I put a 4 hole (G36k) handguard on to cut down on the long barrel look.

It'll take a G3 barrel.

isnt a 5.56 caliber sniper rifle kind of useless? they use 7.62 for a reason
but if your making a G36c into a sniper rifle just buy the SL9SD kit.

why would 5.56 be useless? The 5.56 ball round is effective up to 350 yards. Plus a scope helps you get right up close to your target , if you're not. Read up on the 5.56 before you start ragging on it.

laylax makes a range of barrel extentions.

Nah, you can get up to ~550mm in a normal unported cylinder before you get any barrel suck. The G36 has a 510mm barrel.

Swapping between sniper and assault rifles isn't that easy...

Sniper setup:
-450fps spring
-something to disable full auto
-unported cylinder
-longer inner barrel

Assault setup:
-under 400fps spring
-full auto enabled
-ported cylinder
-standard inner barrel

To swap all those parts out even if your an experienced gun doc would still be hours of work. If you want a long range sniper type weapon, buy one. If you want a carbine, you already have one. You could settle for the middle ground and get an upgraded assault rifle, a full sized G36 (a G36c is not an assault rifle, its a carbine, an assault RIFLE is a full length rifle, an M4A1 is a carbine and an M16 is an assault rifle is another example.) Barrel length means a LOT for muzzle velocity, a team mate of mine and I have pretty much the exact same upgrades in our guns, his a G36c and mine a G36. He shoots 360fps and I shoot 390fps, only difference is that he has a ~260mm tightbore (slightly longer than a standard G36c barrel) and I have a 510mm tightbore. My range and accuracy are superior to his because of this.

Frankly I'm not a fan of AEG sniper rifles to begin with. I've never seen an AEG sniper rifle that can maintain the same grouping of a spring bolt action sniper rifle, gas sniper rifles are often somewhere in between unless you fire very slow to compensate for mag cooldown.

I think the HK94 barrel would work. And you could easily change the inner barrel when you change the outter. It only takes two screws to get the inner barrel out.

ThunderCactus March 4th, 2007 17:20

5.56 is more of a DM round
7.62 has an extra 150 yard range and you can punch through a variety of different cover
if your hiding 6 feet behind drywall, a 5.56 round will just fuckoff on you, 7.62 will retain a straighter path when going through cover
im just saying 7.62 is a superior round for accuracy and range, 5.56 is more of a rifleman iron sight round due to its lower weight and the fact that most engagement happen under 250 yards
