SR16 Grip Alternative

I am looking to change my SR16 grip to fit more of a contractor styled aeg.

I am currently unsure on which grip would go best.

At first I thought that the pseudo Magpul MIAD grip would fit nicely.
Seen here

But then I stumbled upon this grip:
A Smokeys grip with a motor mount.

Version 2 gearboxes don't have any motor mount and thought this might be beneficial for my SR16 since I've had problems with fitting the motor in the past.

My question is, will this really be solid? Anyone has seen one or has one to tell me about it? If it doesn't sound too secure, should I be better off with the Magpul knockoff?

Thanks alot,
Cass.

The MIAD grip is authentic Magpul; they make airsoft stuff too.

Personally, I'd recommend a Tango Down style grip, just cause they're so sweet. This sort of thing: http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper...04OD_cat_Grips

hey droc is that grip left hand friendly??

Droc March 5th, 2007 03:32

yes

I still like that idea of the motor cage for an M16!

Droc, seen your grip before. Too cool for my style.

harley, thanks I didn't know it was authentic Magpul.

wey, thanks for the input.

Dracheous, same here hence why I'm still hesitating.

Finally, Harleyb, the King Arms grip is nice indeed, but alot of people have it and I was looking into something a little more uncommon.

The often-unspoken benefit of a motor cage (like on a V3 mechbox, and on the Smokey's grip) is that it acts as a heatsink, allowing motor heat to dissipate more quickly. In places with insane summer temps (Philippines), motors on AK's last MUCH longer than those in V2 mechboxes. Some players with v2's even drill holes in the pistol grip to let some of the heat out, or so I read on FILAirsoft.

That's interesting to know Skruface, I am although curious about whether the grip will hold or my gun will fly off in the air. It seems as if the grip is only holding with one screw and that one screw is held with that small metal cage. Is that secure?? That's what's making me nervous about this grip.

EDIT:

found a pic of it mounted:

and here's what it should possibly look like once mounted:

Note: the second pic is not the same grip, I figured it is what it would look like once fully mounted.

If you look at the grip cage on a TM V3 box, it's almost the same design, although with a few more screws securing things.

So what's your verdict? Safe or will break?
