Honestly get what gun you like. Don't get what anyone else tells you too, because in the end you may not like it.

There is a 1000+ threads on here about what guns to get, and what people think is the best. In the end, all AEG's out of the box are pretty much the same, only differences are internal quality of parts and upgrade options.

Find a model of gun you like and will be confortable carrying, then research which brands will allow you to upgrade and modify it to the personal look you want.

If you're of age and don't know which gun to choose... theres plenty of options. Bloodsport gave a good explanation and theres always the route of going to a few games and renting/borrowing gear to get a feel for what you like. You'll learn a heck of a lot from just reading what you see on this forum, I sure as hell have.

Just show up at a game and decide for yourself.

this is the best advice you can get. Go check out a game. Everyone is really cool and wil talk about their AEG's. Trouble is getting us to shut up...he he he... well ok me.

Deep.

P.S.
It was the advice given to me many many moons ago and it was so valuable. Go to a game, talk to folks. Best way...period.

If you can make it, do go to a game. Everyone is nice (so long as you call your hits), I'm sure you'll get to hold and fire a few AEGs, and you don't even have to play (I don't see why you wouldn't though). You can go and just get the feel and atmosphere of the games, which is generally a good time.
If you're like me and live too far from any respectable game then research my good friend. ASC forums are a good place to learn alot (I wish I'd found them sooner). There is an extensive reviews section (http://www.airsoftcanada.com/forumdisplay.php?f=17) which is not only used to review guns, but Canadian Retailers, accessories and anything airsoft. As well there is a long term durability review thread (http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=36977) which is helpful in providing a bit of a look into the future of what problems you might encounter, if any(ofcourse, this is hard to judge since every one treats their gun differently, some to more care of it, some take less, but it's good information to know). And just in general, there is all sorts of information floating around here, and on many other sites across the intraweb. Arnies Airsoft (http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/), Hatchet's Guide to Airsoft (http://www.tea-and-medals.co.uk/), and a series of others (you can find alot of UK based sites. They love their Airsoft). Just use google.
