In airsoft, sniping is a thing that is regarded as very difficult, and depending on your views of the game, also very boring at times. The thing about airsoft sniping is that sniper rifles are often more powerful then AEGs, although in a shoot out an AEG will win hands down over a bolt action rifle. As it stands many people feel sniping is something to be taken very seriously and should only be done by those who have had proper training or alot of experiance, due to the fact that serious injury may arise.

Essentially what Im trying to say in a polite manor is, dont get a crap soft sniper rifle. Save your money, go for quality. You will appreciate it later on. Read all the info you can find on this site about sniping and reviews of diffrent kinds of guns. In the end patients is rewarded.

Just in case you think this can be done cheaply, think again: a decent sniper type rifle for airsoft will easily cost well above $400. Maybe less if you get your age verified (prove you are over 18) and then look in the Classifieds section of this site.

As said, do NOT buy a piece of crap, you will regret it if you do. For the rest, I strongly suggest you start by reading the Newbie Guide in the Information section.

If you dont live in Canada, some of those rules will not apply to you. Please complete your user profile so local people can give you better information.

Tokyoseven is right about the boring part, my brother in law is our team sniper, at one of our big op games we had, he fired a total of 9 shots the whole day where as I got off about 3-4000 shots. He also paid close to $900 for his sniper rifle.

Bieng a member of the Edmonton Based Scout/Sniper team there is a lot of sitting there waiting and waiting. We send intel back and most times in a game you get maybe 3-5 shots in. That is best case scenario. This is something not everyone can do.

Just my opinion, but though I know sniping sounds attractive, yknow all lone stealthy killer, I'd go with an assault rifle. No sniping. Because the fact of the matter is that, not only for the price of a quality sniper rifle can you purchase multiple other rifles, but airsoft sniping is, as far as my experience goes... bullshit. No matter how fast you can get a 6 or 8 mm pelet going it is never going to have the power or mass to stay on target at long range. Over short distances, my L96 is as accurate as any of the .308 real steel I've fired, but at those short distances, you might as well just go with an assault rifle. So my advice - get a nice full metal AEG, with some upgrades and add-ons and what not.

I've only had one chance to use my Type 96 in a game yet, I hadn't had the chance to tweak/properly sight it in yet, and I was already outranging many of the AEG's at the game. And got it used and upgraded, but it still cost me $1000.

I know my KJW M700 has more range than some of the upgraded AEG's out there. With the proper wieghted bb's and such and the time and money to get it where you need too, sniping can be fun. However it is expensive when you get the gun at about 500+, a good scope, bipod, ghillies suit, etc.... you could be looking at a good 1200+

BBs even cost like hell because of their quality.

Ya, $20-30CDN for a box of 500 rounds. That'd be the Maruzen Super Grand Master 0.29g and the TM Superior 0.30g. Both are excellent BBs, and perform better when you wash the packing oil off them.

ur supposed to "un-lubricate" BBs?

I thought lubricated ones were good?

Your suppose to wash your BBs because am sure we all know that BBs come with a slightly lubed surface to reduce friction and feed easier. By washing them you can remove the oil or lubricant this makes the hop up more effective so u can use a lower hop up setting which means there’s less interference with the bbs path making a more stable flight....

I think lol

The other drawback for sniping for a beginning player and that you do not understand the game well enough to be really effective at the role. The shots a sniper fires should be carefully timed and placed, and one simply does not have enough knowlege to know how to achieve these results without playing for some time.

I'd reccommend gettting a good AEG and playing as a rifleman for some time so you can come to understand the ebb and flow of the game, and the key moments and places so you can influence them as a sniper.
