Opinions on firefox throat mic

I am considering purchasing one of these throat mics:

Never having purchased something like this I was wondering if someone out there that has this could give me their impressions.

Any advice on what to look for or avoid on a headset would also rock. ;)
(I'm using a motorola talkabout FV700. Looking for a setup with a finger PTT)

Ok, I have one of these bad boys (firefox commando), and here's my take.

Upon opening package it seems to be a moderately quality product, the design is not too impressive. Cost is pretty much the lowest that I have seen, MSRP $35. My first game; it worked for about a minute at a time, I could niether recive nor transmit. I had to adjust the connector and fiddle with it for it to work, any slight movement and it would be out again. After much research, i confrimed that the radio I had a Motorola T600 series is fully compatible. I called Firefox and they emailed me the link to thier warrnty/repair form, I was directed to mail it to them and then they would fix it and send it back. I decided not to go through with it. Instead i took some electric tape and after getting the connector in 'just right' I quickly taped it in place. It now works without fail, as long as I don't remove the tape. It seems that the connector is too small to make a full connection, also the connector is silver in color which is yet another downside as we all know the gold plated ones cunduct better. I also noticed that it tends to slip down my neck when I sweat so i made a collar for it and taped the PTT to it. I am told that these firefox commandos are not really throat mics rather plain mics hidden in the recivers.

summary (rateing out of 10)

Cost: 10 cheap
Look: 5 not very milspec looking
performance: 9 (provided you can maintain the connection to the radio)
reliability: 3 for all the hastle it took to actually get it to work.

Hope this helps.

The only throat mic I ever used that actually worked (by worked I mean people could understand what I was saying down to a whisper) was a mil spec test unit at a trade show that cost $650 USD.
Save your money bro. Buy BB's.

Ive had this one for about 4 years now. Works great. Never had a problem with people understanding me. And can hear other people loud and clear.

The only problem Ive had with it is the PTT button sometimes doesnt work properly. I have to press it real tight to keep it held in when talking. I think I might just replace the button myself down the road. Also I have to tape the earpiece over my ear to keep it from falling out.
