Systema Mechboxes
 

Greetings,
Here's whats happening. I am preparing myself for the adventure of building my own AEG. Its a weakness i'm sure that i share with many. I dont know, just the challenge of building something like this is just exciting, but anyways.

I'm building a fancy M4 SD(mainly G&P externals) which will be my main weapon and used for woodland and some CQB's(will most likely use my M9 for CQB's)...and i've been pondering over which route to go when it comes to mechboxes. I enjoy building and modifying my own but i've always sorta been wanting to try one of these bad boys out, after all they are quite attractive.

So my question(s) is, would this be a wise investment for myself? what advantages would such a mech box have over others? is there any specific mods that would need to be done in order to install it? or should i go a completely different route in this situation?

I'd have to say your biggest #1 absolute BEST feature on that mechbox.... is havin 3mm hex screws instead of 2mm.
Doesn't sound like much but trust me, working with G&P mechboxes sucks ASS because those screws strip so goddamn easily and they put them in BALLS tight.
And it's all systema, so you don't need to buy any upgrades, and the mechbox is reinforced.

NOW, I did some pricing out for one of my guns, and for you it will be cheaper to get the systema complete.
If you already had a wiring harness and trigger and everything else you needed, you could upgrade everything else with prometheus parts, and you could buy a tightbore with the money left over in comparison to a systema mechbox. :)

Well...I never would have guessed that the size of screws would have such an impact on choosing a Mechbox.
Now when you said to get the 'Systema complete'. Were you referring to as the link that i had left in my previous post?

Also, is there a specific motor that would be required or best to run a box like this?

Systema Magnum motor.

You don't need a Magnum to turn that box over - there is no "recommended" motor except for the Systema "package deals" of mechbox and motor for one low price - the rest is nothing but speculation or user opinion. A stock TM EG1000 with a large battery will turn that spring over fine. A better choice would be an ICS Turbo 3000 - which is a little more than 1/3 the cost of a Magnum.

A suggestion about building a mexhbox - don't do it by yourself the first time - find someone who knows what they are doing and can teach you and explain while you watch. There's the potential for $1oo+ worth of repairs if you misalign something if you're using high-end parts.

Refering to building mechboxes, i do have such experieince upgrading, maintaining and building these, i'd just like to try one of these out.

Yes i am referring to the mechbox in your link, and I'd actually recommend either a G&P M140 motor. I didn't notice any speed difference between it and my M120 but I noticed the motor was under less strain to pull that 400fps spring back.
Systema magnums do seem to be the most widely recommend motor, but there's a few cases of people stripping the pinion gear on them. Whether it's due to poor installation or factory defects I don't know.
And trust me, if your re-greasing and maintaining your internals even once every 2 months, having screws you can't strip is a HUGE benefit :)

A Magnum motor is overkill for that gearbox. Honestly, you don't need a Magnum motor unless you're cranking an M150 spring or heavier - even with infinite torque up gears.

You're fine with a Marui EG1000 motor for an M120 box. Anything more is unnecessarily spent funds.

I gave up tinkering with mechboxes after 2 years and went with a Systema complete.

Best decision I ever made. Thing runs perfectly.

not only all of that, but the magnum motors suck twice the amount of juice as a TM EG3000... meaning less trigger time! This is a huge problem if youre using minis or twins in that M4. I got my magnum for dirt cheap (under half retail cost) so thats why I own one.

and believe it or not, the TM motors are actually Very good quality. Kind of strange for an item thats so cheap!

I have two systema M120 complete mechboxes in my possession now, and stand by their quality 100%. (systema PISTONS on the other hand....)

buy a PRO-WIN mech box... problems solved
