There are a wide ranging opinions on what sling works best, and I'd like to share some of my experiences with slings.

I went from a three-point, which was a nightmare if you had to switch from your dominate hand to support hand to shoot, then to a one point because of those problems. But after running with a one point on my AR15, even at the range, which one is pretty much static, the weapon retention was lacking horribly. I found my muzzle would swing around during weapon transitions, or if I had to perform simple tasks. Its nearly impossible to put your hands on a subject, climb a ladder, rope, or do something without one hand keeping the muzzle still. To remedy the problem I went with a Blackhawk's CQD Mark II Weapons Catch, which did the job, but I found it way to slow to secure the weapon for a weapons transitions or to perform other tasks. After getting fed up with it, I finnally went and got the V-Tac MK2 sling directly from Kyle E. Lamb.

This is by far the best sling I've used ever. The design is simple, tried, true, and tested in combat. It utilizes a two point sling setup, which is designed for muzzle down carrying. One can adjust the length of the sling in seconds, allowing the user to quickly perform tasks, this is accomplished through the use of a free running tail or the quick release lanyard.

I originally posted this on one of our local forums, but didn't generate any discussion. I am curious as to what other geardos and experienced airsofters are running for their weapon slings. Why they contend theirs is better, and share some experiences.

You should try the Blue Force Gear Vickers sling ;)

No tail, better quality, IR coated, modular to fit any firearm, nothing to break or jam.

Seconded for the BFG Vickers Sling. I've been using one extensively since Q4 last year and have absolutely zero complaints about it whatsoever. It's ridiculously fast to adjust on the fly, has no trailing ends left out, and the build quality is top notch. I had it on my M4 for the latter part of last year and have been using it on my M16 since the beginning of this year.

I must add that after having used this type of sling, all others seem rather limiting in their use. Once you've been spoiled by the leeway it grants in any given situation, it's rather difficult to go back.

A local outdoors store, Sportmans Warehouse and police supply, Baysingers, carries a few of the V-CAS (Vickers Combat Action Sling), and I must say it is up there right on par with the V-Tac, well any two point design is better for weapons retention than to a one or three.

The material construction is top notch on both the V-CAS and V-Tac, with re-enforced stitching at the right places, however the V-Tac MK2 has the addition of padding that I've often forgotten I had my rifle slinged behind my back, works great for switching from dominate to support side, weapons transitions, african carry, slung back, and is exactly the weapon retention I was looking for. The IR coating is a nice touch on V-CAS part though, but if your running slick - "no vest, just 1st line" as I do at the range majority of the time, its comfy. Though is a mute point if you wear a full enclosing vest.

Moreover I never had an issue with the free running tail, but different strokes for different folks. But I have heard of rumors of the free running tail running into mag wells, which I have yet to reproduce. Interestingly enough Larry Vickers and Kyle Lamb probably operated together at one point or another, and both are equally good tactical instructors.

There is also the VCAS in the padded version ;)

But as you said, they make three point slings obsolete.

If you read through the Vickers website there's a good vibe, in the sling section

"In closing, I recommend you try a quick adjust two point sling; if not mine then another vendor’s design. I think eventually you will agree with me in it is the best choice given all the factors involved."

I too went through the steps of three point (hate. Always catching on shit) then to a one point (which is still on my plate carrier).

I really like the one point, and also went the the weapons catch to try and solve some of th retention issues I encountered (especially buddy drags). I agree it's just to slow and is often hard to see/work with below a second line.

After dumping my AR and going M14 SOCOM, the single point just ain't doing it. I need something that will hold that big fucker in place. I run a BFG Single now and love their webbing better than anything else I've tried. I will be going with them for my first sling, then perhaps the option presented above.

OoO! A padded verison of the V-Cas?! If I would have only known, I might just pick one up, hopefully my local stores are carrying one.

Glad to see another real-steel shooter. I had the same exact problem with the weapon catch, it works, but damn slow and hard to see. I was thinking about picking up one of the Springfield Armory M1A, probably the SOCOM II, as I'll use the tri-rail. Hows yours running?
