.30 Cal Concept

I had a brain fart the other day...A home made .30 (or .50) callibre design for an airsoft gun. So what I figured was two gearboxes side by side with the inner barrels running side by side down one outer barrel. This will give the illusion of one barrel but offer the firepower that you would otherwise not get in a regular AEG. The rest is all just simply welding some sheet metal to create the body and housing for the gearboxes. It could then be set up to take the regular box mags. Only issue would be figuring out how to feed both barrels from one box mag? Opinions? Criticisms? Tips? All appreciated thx.

Blastyman from Edmonton made a M2 .50cal, haven't seen it in person, but the pics and videos are great.

Why do you have to feed both from one mag box? If you are able to mod gear boxes and stuff, you should be able to mod the mag feeds. Make them with feed tubes very close to each other, and have them sit back to back against each other.

You want to build a HMG? Not just a dressed up AEG, but one that actually is the airsoft-equivilant of a HMG? Simple. Mate an upgraded mechbox to a custom barrel/hopup system for Marushin's 8mm BBs. Bore-up kit is a must, as is a Trigger Master unit to keep your ROF down so you don't bankrupt yourself on $15 (in country) for 500 rounds.

Just be careful with welding sheet metal as the welding will distort it. A spot welder could be helpful with welding it together without to much distortion also you may want a jeep or something to carry it around as it will be quite heavy to carry in battle.

Why not just upgrade the calibre to 8mm BBs for that "bigger punch" effect?

How about a portable browning M1919 .30?

Luckless July 17th, 2008 00:17

an M1919 .30 cal actually doesn't look too hard to fabricate. Much of it is riveted from the photos I can find, which can be expected as it was developed before welding was really common.

I think you could make one fairly light if you use a light gage steel on the outer shell, and epoxy it to a honeycomb sheet of heavier steel.

first off thx for the tips, will be sure to come in use. I figured to get that "heavy" effect would be the 2 barrels spitting out twice the amount a normal AEG would (plus that would keep cost to a minimum).

thats why I am considering the .30 cal, because of its easier ability to be portable. I do a .50 it will be mounted onto a ford bronco or something lol.

Another question, the triggers on a .50 cal are two small press-down thumb triggers between two vertical handles correct? anyone clarify that?

yeah its called a spade grip

I guess before I go spend an afternoon digging around for accurate detailed measured drawings/photos of an M1919 .30 cal, I should just ask if anyone here already has some.

wiki the M1919 and under external links theres a link to M1919 builder's forum. They'll most likely have a bunch of pics etc..
