Airsoft in the news

Fairly recent article on airsoft in the Montreal Gazette: http://www.canada.com/montrealgazett...8-24c37e02cd57. Doesn't really do any favors for it.

Full of errors and misconceptions.

Crunchmeister July 16th, 2008 21:33

The main point that they're missing in this thing is that THE 12-15 YEAR OLD AGE GROUP SHOULDN'T EVEN HAVE ACCESS TO THESE GUNS!!!

To you underage noobs out there who are all pissed because we rag that you can't have guns, this is why. This is the public perception you leave for us and jeopardize this sport. Even though it's a very small subsection of "airsoft players" that do stupid shit like having backyard games in public view and don't wear appropriate eye protection, it's all of us that get painted with the same broad, negative brush.

ZackS July 16th, 2008 21:38

Alot of bs happens when they see 10 year old running around with rifles, and that's the way that our sport has gotten it's negative view from general public.

Crunchmeister July 16th, 2008 21:57

Yeah. The media and public don't care about the mature, responsible airsoft players who handle their guns safely, keep them locked up, and only play on private, secluded fields that are out of public sight with proper safety equipment. Those stories aren't exciting, and they don't sell papers or help with TV ratings. The only things that get reported is the small percentile of kids that do stupid shit like this. And it makes us all look bad and casts a very negative light on our perfectly safe hobby.

That being said, not all kids are stupid either. In many cases, the parents are to blame, because they buy these guns for their kids and them set them loose to play with them without any supervision. THEY are the ones that need to be held accountable for the kids' actions.

There's nowhere to leave comments?! The bastards!

Crunchmeister July 16th, 2008 22:15

I was looking for somewhere to leave comments as well. Even to contact the author of the article to send a piece of my mind. But I couldn't find it if it was there.

Drache July 16th, 2008 22:21

I wrote a letter to the editor concerning the article and politely gave my view explaining the difference between softair and the sport of airsoft. If anyone wants I can post the email address to the editor.

kalnaren July 16th, 2008 22:23

"replicas of everything from an Ultimate Bolt Action Sniper Rifle"

hahahaha

Oh man, that article is terrible. Unfortunetly even it displays more knowledge about airsoft than what the average public has.

you're best bet is to email and call the editor. tell him/her you need to get in touch with the author. They might be able to give you a mailing address or phone number.

Edit: Just do like drache did::)

Thorazine July 16th, 2008 22:32

I wouldn't mind seeing it, Drache!

Janus July 16th, 2008 22:33

Sounds like the author learned everything about it from his kid.

Wow. Good research.

Donster July 16th, 2008 22:39

can someone write to the editor with a better article. maybe it will be published and the inaccuracies quelled.

immortalundead July 16th, 2008 22:42

any one in the montreal area willing to visit the editor and these little kiddies and give a demonstration on airsoft and explain about clearsoft?
