PTW: Troy Industries Special Purpose Carbine - 14.5"

This will quite possibly the laziest photoshoot and gun post I will ever create for one of my pieces, but I'm tired and I just want to get this out of the way so that I can build the REAL project behind this one...

Holy crap, Brian. I'm not going to ask you how much you sunk into it (I sort of just did), but that's a hot build.

That's the Prime lower too, isn't it? Who do I have to kill to get a few of those?

ILLusion July 17th, 2008 01:11

hmm... I'd actually rather not know for myself (because I might cry), but I have a rough idea... and considering how I don't have to upgrade any of the internals, this is one of my "cheaper" builds on top of an OEM product. :P

It was mostly time that was put in to this project.

mcguyver July 17th, 2008 01:15

You can always buy the Kanzen upgrade bearings. That should set you back about $30.

Who did you get that flip-to-side mount from? The Huang twist mount isn't doing it for me.

dpvu July 17th, 2008 01:24

Looks great! I'm curious what the real project behind this was.

Isn't that a little long for a CQB rifle (not taking anything away from your build)? And a 3x magnifier indoors?

jesster202 July 17th, 2008 01:27

currently land arms makes a good replica of the side mount.

Shirley July 17th, 2008 01:37

Brian, you're a freak. That is one sexy rifle.
I want those sights.

ColtFarmer July 17th, 2008 01:45

I picked up the mount when I was in Hong Kong. It's branded under "Bomber Airsoft" and it's a very well built unit - much more impressive than Huang's twist mount. I also got the magnifier from Huang and like you, I wasn't impressed with the twist mount at all. The height was too low (I corrected it with a QD riser mount), it was wobbly and machining on it wasn't done well. Tolerances were extremely wide at best.

You're right, it's not very "CQB", and this side-project wasn't intended to be at all. I only put that name in the title because of the laser markings on the receiver. I took it out as it wasn't suitable.

This build is more of a multi-purpose type build, good for close/medium/long range. The flip-to-side mount allows that level of maneuverability and the quick detach rebar cutter could hint at a door kicker role as well.

The original offspring of this project is my "CQB" build - this 13.5" project was just an afterthought as the Troy rails are relatively inexpensive. For what you pay, you get a lot. I thought it might be fun to fiddle with something like this.

That's one sick looking gun dude. Looks awesome. And yeah, I don't even want to know how much you put into it. It would probably bring a tear to my eye as well.

I don't know what it is about those Troy flash hiders, but I love them. I love that 'meat tenderizer' look. I have one (slightly different model) on my HK416 and I think that small addition makes the look of the gun. I look at pics of before and after, and it's amazing how something something so small and almost trivial can have such an impact on the overall look.

But once again, incredible job on that gun dude. As they say, "You da man".

The rail system itself is very well priced at just $285USD.

JoeyJackhammer July 17th, 2008 18:29

yet another Illusion masterpiece added to the spankbank.

Steggs July 17th, 2008 18:41

Caution SPANKING IN PROGRESS!!!!!!

Awesome rifle Brian

Steggs July 17th, 2008 18:46

Alright I'm finished.........

Edit: If you can get a line on some of those FTS mounts I would be really interested!

Qlong July 17th, 2008 19:11

Holy shit, that's really nice!!! I can't beleive I missed this for the past 18 hours.
