Scopes and Exit Pupil

So i am still confused as to what the exit pupil is with regards to scopes despite my reading on it. i know that eye relief is the distance your eye can be away from the scope (more eye relief = farther back your eye can be from the scope to see clearly through it) but what is the exit pupil. and when choosing my scope, should i focus more on eye relief or the exit pupil?

an example of differences in eye relief and exit pupil spec can be found here. Should i go for a scope with more eye relief or a larger exit pupil?

Thanks,

For airsoft...more eye relief. It'll help compensate for paintball googles, not such an issue if you are wearing shooting glasses.

Exit pupil, as you've probably read already, refers to the light gathering ability of the scope and how much light will get to your eye. For most airsoft games...not really an issue...perhaps better for dark shaded canopy covered forests. Short but good description

Good scopes will have a serviceable amount of both. Best thing is to try it out before you buy it (or similar scopes).

Good lense material and coatings make a huge difference...something that may be sorely lacking with clone scopes.

Obviously your choice will vary depending if you are leaning towards function or realism....2-4x is just fine for airsoft, much higher than 6x and it can become really hard to find your target at relatively short ranges.

thanks for the info! i guess ill go with the scope that has the most eye relief and at 4x, i think i will be ok. though if anyone has personal experience, would i be better off with a 2x scope?

4x is the max usefull zoom factor for airsoft when you want to shoot.

2x would be good if you have an AEG at 400fps. 4x would be a bit more suitable for sniper that need to do more recon and surveillance. There is not much differences bewetting the two factors, but for fast shooting, 2x would be best.

Personally I have a 4x on my aeg. I use it more for looking at things up closer than shooting with it.
