Kraken gear problems
 

So I'm trying to shim my Kraken, and no matter what I try (sitting high or low) the sector gear always binds in the EXACT same spot every rotation when it's in the closed gearbox with the spur gear. Tons of shims, no shims spur gear up and down nothing worked. I'm putting new modify stainless bushings in and trying to shim it with modify stainless shims. What could be causing this? Bent axle? Warped bushing?

I had this problem when I installed steel bushings on my kraken. The spur gear axle was bent just slightly. So I replaced the kraken gears with a stock TM gear set, everything works fine now.

when you mean "bind"...do you mean that it resists rotation but does still rotate? or it jams/stops and won't rotate any more?

If it's a slight resistance...you might have the selector plate in the semi position, which will allow the cutoff lever to engage the oval nub under the sector gear (this is how the gun cuts power in semi). The oval nub is pushing the cutoff lever, which is in turn pressing up against the switch block. The cutoff lever is under tension by the little spring on the selector plate.

If you move the selector plate to full auto, the cutoff lever is pinned back by the selector plate and will not ride the oval nub of the sector gear.

If it jams/sticks excessively...your axels/bushings may not be pressed in properly. Your mechbox could be warped. etc....

i know from experience. when i was shimming my krakens box i put too many/thick shims on the gears. the box would close fine but when i pulled the trigger to test fire theyd only move about a half rotation and stop
you said yourself as i before quoted you "tons of shims". when you say tons of shims what else is anybody supposed to think. youre not supposed to have "tons of shims" only a few in the right places. the only way i can see there being lots of shims is if youre only using the paper thin ones

but then.... as they said. might be bushings, gear axels, or the gearbox itself. which i kinda doubt if you didnt have this problem til after you started shimming
take the gears out and switch them with a dif guns gears. youll be able to find out if its your gears if it does the same thing in the other guns box or if the other guns gears do the same thing in your krakens gearbox then its the gearbox itself

Since its CYMA it is the CYMA gearbox so expect some problems when upgrading it as most of the time the parts won't fit flush

May need a dremmel things or file down some thing to get things to fit flush

does the gear spin well in the bushing outside of the gearbox. I had a simliar problem and it was poor casting and fit with the bushings.

had to use a file to get it to spin.

Dusti69: I was listing things I tried, both lots of shims and no shims.
Hortons Heros: All of the gears spin perfectly fine when they're in the gearbox by themselves, fully (and properly) shimmed.
m102404: By bind I mean they don't completely stop, it is just really really hard to move the sector gear with my finger. I also thought of the cutoff lever thing and have tried the selector plate in all positions, with no luck. The bushings might not be in properly, as they were a tight fit. I will pop them out and file the mechbox bushing holes and see if that helps.

Try freezing them before you put them in.

wait... you didnt say anything about it so did you even try to test fire it?
i usually cant turn any of the gears by hand in any of my gearboxes when theyre closed. they move a little and then stop

and make sure your piston didnt pop out of its grooves when you close the gearbox. ive had this problem enough times before where the spring twists it out of the grooves while im putting the box back together and it goes together fine but then when you try to test fire it goes back halfway and gets stuck and then when you open it it pops back forward which is un-nerving
but if youre testing without your spring and piston in then disregard that

Same thing happened to me the gears are hard to move but if you can make a good rotation with no stopping it should still shoot.

No, I didn't even close it... just trying to shim it right now.

so you havent even had it closed to test fire it yet?? maybe you dont even have a problem at all
