rpk quests

Hello there.
I was wondeirng for all of you who have scarch built your RPK from Ak-47 part,
What did you use, my goal is to have one closest to the weight and feel of an actual one as possible. Also I would like to use a one piece outter barrel.

Does any one have any suggestions?

Also with the aks that are coming in with clear recievers, I wonder if we will be getting clear rpk?

Thanks for looking.

I would think the market would be quite limited for clear RPK's. But who knows, could be a possibility somewhere in the future.

Use real wood. And I mean real wood, not chinese crap wood. Get yourself a Soviet or Romanian laminated stock set and modify it to fit. That will instantly improve the look and feel.

Get the corresponding rear RPK buttstock. Get a custom battery to fit it or modify your old one. Buy the longer outer barrel and cleaning rod. Get a PSG length inner barrel from airsoft parts. This will be the result:

Now you can worry about cosmetics once you get the look of the RPK down. I'd buy the longer banana mags for the RPK rather than the drums since some of em are known to have problems.

For my "close as you're gonna get without an Inokatsu/Russian Mania Workshop kit" RPK74:

TM AK base (or whatever clone you desire; a CYMA AK74 or AKM would make good base guns to build on and save you replacing some parts)

Added parts that are easy to find:
Romanian or Bulgarian Laminated RPK stock set for milled receiver, modded to fit
real-steel RPK bipod
real-steel 800m RPK rear sight
real-steel side mounted optics plate
real-steel Russian issue PK-01 collimated red dot sight
PDI AK long outer barrel set from redwolf
PDI AK long cleaning rod from redwolf
King Arms AK-74 metal body and pistol grip
CYMA, G&P, or King Arms metal front sight block
MAG 45-round Bakelite mags

Gear:
real-deal Russian M23 "Pioneer" chest rig to carry those 45-round mags

HINT: Avoid the SRC clone of the Guarder RPK barrel extension; the OD sizing is off on the CYMA barrel extension; it won't fit inside a TM outer barrel without some sanding/machining.

I am trying not to use pdi, I wanted to order from them but they thought I lived in France.

I'd hate to "taint" your project, but if you want more correctness someday -

I have yet to see laminated RPK furniture for a milled receiver, ever. All are for stamped. I assume you mean convert stamped furniture?

RPKs use 1000m sights, have yet to see one with 800m

the PDI Long outer barrel set is not as long as a real RPK barrel, says its only 550mm on Redwolf.

The KA AK-74 body will require plates to be attached to simulate the "bulges" on a RPK receiver for the larger trunnion. If you're building a post 1972 RPK, or an RPK-74, you will have to fill in the dimples above the mag well. You will also need to redo the rivets and weld spots on the front.

Early East German issue. Has red markings instead of the white you see on Russkie 1000m. Friend brought a couple back in the late 80's when he was stationed in Lahr, or Baden as souveniers. I've been trying to get them from him ever since lol.

PDI's own website says it's 590....PDI also ffers a 595mm tightbore specifically for the long AK outer barrel set.

Profile's not perfect, but I am not a machinist not do I have access to a mill/lathe, so it's a close as I'm gonna get.

One other way is to bite the bullet. Try and get an importer to bring in the 2004 Guarder kit. Everything in one box. Except a few items from a donor AK.

Neither do I, but JBweld and soft aluminum cut with a dremel and then filed does wonders. So does drilling holes and supergluing rivet heads ;) If I ever get some free time to finally complete my RPK, I'll do my best to post a simple guide.

Good find Viv. It's basically almost exactly what I'm doing. Hell I'm even using a copy of the GP body shown there.

Vivisector October 23rd, 2008 21:05

It's about the same as what i'm doing to a Element body.
