Discharger

Hey,

I narrowed down my search to two dischargers:

and

http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/guarder-b...ischarger.html

Which one do you guys suggest as I can't choose between them. Is there a reason why I should choose one and not the other?

PS: My battery is a nunchuck style Sanyo NiCD 9.6v 1700Mah and I am gonna buy an Intellect 8.4 NiMH 1400Mah battery but the NiMH I don't need to discharge so it must be good for the first battery.

Thanks in advance,
Sindagon

oh my bad. when i bought mine it simply said it discharges all types. perhaps they changed it. in that cause, it really doesn't matter what discharger you buy. any decent brand with the right specs (i.e. can discharge up to 9.6v) is what you need. unlike chargers, dischargers are just that. they drain your battery. any should do.

thanks for your swift replies Donster. Much appreciated.

Get a cheapo computer case fan. Connect that to your battery. It will discharge it.

Sindagon November 14th, 2008 09:44

how do i connect the case fan to the bat? i have a case fan available.

Jimski November 14th, 2008 09:55

look intensely at the fan's cable and its plug.
compare both plugs and see how they don't fit into each other.
if you concentrate hard enough you will know what to do.
it involves using a blade and sometimes a soldering iron.

You can just strip the ends of the fan wires and stick them in your battery connector. Just make sure you don't short them out.

Donster November 14th, 2008 10:41

wait. he has NIMH batteries. i just found out that you are not supposed to discharge them or else it ruins them. i just discharged my NIMH battery and after i did, i read the post about that. i threw it out.

Discharge Ni-Mah = BAD. It will KILL the battery.

You don't really even need to discharge Ni-Cad batteries all that much either. Especially if the battery is made of newer, high-grade cells, Ni-Cad memory effect is minimal. It's not like batteries of old when you would half discharge, charge it, and be fuxxored.

Do yourself a favour, spend the money on a really good charger instead.

wait, I thought that was only when you don't use the proper gear and let the cell empty completely ?
I discharge my batts with a TLP and never got any problem.
but as you say that's a good charger.

As you said, using the TLP probably doesn't discharge the cells completely, as a cheap discharger will.

Sindagon November 18th, 2008 06:24

hey,

thanks for the computer fan suggestion. I stripped its wires and it worked perfectly as an overnight discharger. I won't be needing a discharger i guess.

Kos-Mos November 18th, 2008 11:32

Actually, there is a switch behind/under TLPs to set discharge voltage to 0.9v/cell or true 0v/cell.

And that is where the trick is.
